garrard 401

So, a short story. Recently my Dad passed away. He left me a wonderful Garrard turntable which I grew up with. He built the turntable & spent much money on it over the years updating & improving it. Vinyl sounds wonderful on it. However, I recently set it up in my home. I was very careful with the wiring. Then disaster, I turned it on & sparks flew plus it tripped out the house lights. Looking inside the turntable I can see that I've been very unlucky in that a earth wire had come undone. I have now reconnected it but alas I cannot get power to the turntable so something else has failed.

This is where I struggle, the turntable is a mass of wires way beyond my knowledge. I can see a brown wire that is not connected but I have no idea what it should be attached to. To be honest it could be something else, I have no idea. Hifi shops are few and far between nowadays so I'm at a loss and looking for any advice/help from anyone on this forum. I would be very grateful. I have taken photos of the underside of the turntable, not sure if I can post photos on this forum. Anyway any help would be appreciated, I`m desperate to fix it.  Thank you to anyway who reads this.

Regards Simeon

If you google there is plenty of information and pictures and even manuals for the 401 which should help you get the wiring sorted. Failing that there are plenty of Garrard restoration services - some may be willing to give you a little free advice.

Why start another thread about the exact same thing you started the other day? :? How do you think you'll get a different answer? The advice is still going to be the same: take it to an electrician if you can't do it yourself. You were also directed towards a few Garrard-specific forums which might be able to help you directly. You seemed happy with all that advice at the time.

He hasn't started another thread major. It's just someone has replied to one of the two older threads that were all created at about the same time by the Pink Floyd fanatic.

Most of us could see which was currently the active thread and responded to that one.

Ah my error and apologies to the Op. Only got to bed at half two so 8AM was probably not a great time for me to spot such details lol.

It is a pity that there would appear to be no way to delete a thread, created by mistake, even if you are the original poster and nobody else has replied to it as there is still another 'Garrard 401' thread listed.

True but you can always edit the text to read "duplicate thread please ignore"

You could indeed if you knew that. Most of these threads appear to be from first-time posters who probably don't.

Perhaps the moderators should keep an eye out for these and delete them Smile

As they appear to do with those posted by our resident Indian love guru 'expert'..etc
