Very pleased by the new Rega RP3!

Great speed stabilitet. Don't live near heavy industries, no need for TT-PSU.

The pre fitted Elys 2 has a slight veil.

A) Upgrade phono stage from Rega mini to Leema Elements, Lehmann or Dynavector

OR

B) Upgrade cartridge to Dynavector MC high output (keep the phono amp)

Which is most cost effective?

Nothing wrong with your cartridge but the Mini Fono is probably a bit 'entry level' for the RP3/elys 2. I would try and get a home demo - Lehmann, Graham Slee. Musical Fidelity, Rega Fono (maxi). They should all improve on what you have without going too mad with your money.

Have you got the basics right?

Is the deck level? (Spirit-level 'level' as measured on the RP3 itself.)

Is it on a strong, rigid, light, open structure (TT wall support or specialised support on a concrete floor) rather than a large, 'massy' piece of furniture?

Is it sited away from the direct 'line of fire' of your speakers?

What bias/anti-skate setiing do you use? If you match the setting to the same value as the tracking force then try reducing it to as little as 50 percent of the current setting. (Rega RB arms have very 'aggressive' anti-skate/bias.)

Was the Elys factory or dealer aligned? Hopefully the cartridge is affixed with three screws and not just two. (I have known of dealers who don't get this right.)

Try playing LPs with the lid down (or removed) rather than with the lid up.

Have you got about 20 hours (or more) playing time on the RP3 yet? (Cartridges don't tend to reveal their proper character until used for a while.)

Thanks for the answers!

I know that the Neat Iota was show cased by a Rega RP3 and a Elys 2. The phono amp they used was a Dynavector P75 mk2.

The needle weight is 1.8 gram and the anti skating is setup via a test record. Yes, the Rega anti biasing can skate like on ice if not properly setup.

A point worth investigating, I had a Dynovector P75 at home early this week, it is good, but I am informed by the dealer the Russ Andrews PSU that came with it in my case, (you have to buy a wall-wart PSU of some kind, as no PSU is supplied) is a distinct improvement???

I compared it to my Croft phono stage, the P75 was returned to the dealer on Wednesday . . . need I say more, at £500 the croft is considerably cheaper, but in a large box by comparison.  One down side, the croft is MM only, will you ever go MC?

This is only IMHO . . . CJSF

Leema elements is also of interest, the award choice of this magazine. Leema does not manufacture cartridges though, wonder if Dynavector might be more versatile.

Let me add that Onzow Zerodust is a great pickup cleaner. When first demonstrated, I thought it was a joke. However, 50 pounds later there is no doubt about its effectivenes.
