Dual
My Late dad had a Dual turntable and its just sitting at my mums house gathering dust. I hear they were quite good in their day, is this correct?. I'm not sure of the exact model but I will check next time i'm over there. I think it was purchased in the late 70s early 80s
Yes, there were some very good ones - this section of the Dual reference site should help you find out more about whichever model you have.
We had a Dual as well! I think it was fully automatic as well. This was my dad's first hi-fi as well - with a Dual amp, speakers and tuner as well.
thanks for th replies. I will find out the exact model. Imay have to ask mum (nicely) if I can borrow it
New belt and a new stylus for (almost certainly) the Ortofon OM10 that's fitted, and job's a good 'un.
Well, it's more like what became the Ortofon OM10. Be a little careful with styli, as there are an awful lot of "non-genuine" styli out there that have conical diamonds, not elliptical as was first fitted.
Now, a conical tip isn't going to ruin your records, but it won't bring out the best of them either. They are cheap though (my 7-yr old daughter has a conical ebay-special on her 505/2 which cost about a tenner and sounds fine to her ears!)...
I think every hifi enthusiast of 'a certain age' has owned either a CS-505, a PL-112D, KD-1033 or SR-222 in the BC* era. (My first TT was an SR-222 Mk2)
*Before CD.
I must be of "a certain age" then, having both a 505/2 and a PL-12d II!!!
Some smashing Duals here restored by a guy who obviously takes great pride in his work.

Guppy? Is that you?!?!?
What!? (smacks forehead with palm) You didn't instantly recognise my superior wit, higher knowledge and Brummie accent? I was wondering why you and others were being so civil towards me, lol.
I thought the fact I posted up huge pics on that other tt related thread, which gave Andrew something useful to do, would have had the corporal scampering to the air-raid siren.
So whatever became of Dual, were they not at one stage taken over by Philips?
They still make tv's. They have some lcd tv's in our local Asda. Is it the same company tho, who knows?

Im pretty sure that i read they are still going and were about to release a new TT earlier in the year AFAIA, will check up on this. Not sure if its hit blighty yet, or if its a figbox of my imagination. Time to dive into my mag stash.

A CS505-II probably. They were good, it was my first TT, and what everybody used to buy before they bought first a) a Rega Planar 3 and then b) a Linn Sondek.
