Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms 180g Double Reissue

Been hearing that the reissue has the full length tracks that were cut to fit on the original LP in particular Why Worry?

Can anybody confirm this? Whats the SQ like?

Cheers

Steve, on your behalf, and also out of curiosity because I'm tempted myself,  I've just checked the run times of my B.I.A. cd against the times quoted on the Diverse Vinyl site, and they're all to within a second or two, so I can't see a problem.

There are no run times on my vinyl copy, so am assuming that they, too, are about the same.

My advice is, BUY IT, then give us your verdict. Please. At £23 it's not too expensive.

Could be interested in this myself. Always suspicious of re-masters/re-issues though, never know if they're just cashing in on a trend.

Mind you if I ever see a 'HD' digital re-master of it, I'll truly know they're trying to pull a fast one.

I had a listen to my old vinyl copy last night, and it sounded quite good, so on the basis that the tracks will be spread out over two discs, thus should be twice as dynamic, you'd think that the new two-disc version should be better? Hopefully it'll be twice as dynamic as my old disc, but the sceptic in me has doubts.

Just look at the price and leave alone. If the original 2 disc job was 30+ notes and Rumours was/is similar, then under 19 squid means it's iffy or they have a load they need to shift.

FWIIW. BIA was one of the first recordings on digital tape  - a Sony 24 track ie: a DDD. So remastering was done in the digital domain. Was listening to my hybrid SACD's 2 channel layer and there is greater depth and dynamic range, but still enjoy the CD layer as much on my HiFi.IMHO the original CD was lacking in this respect, surprising with a DDD transfer.

Agree. Why Worry presents a superb 3D soudstage and a track I used to audition my HiFi purchases in 1987 and 1995. Sorts the wheat from the chaff. Despite that, I should have stuck to vinyl!
