Im interested in delving into the world of vinyl. Im not looking to spend the earth in case I don't but that much vinyl and had thought the Pro-Ject Genie 3 and CA 640P might be a good and inexpensive way to get into it. Any thoughts or other recommendations?

I currently have a CA 540 amp and Mourdant Short speakers. Im hoping to upgrade next year. Im currently thinking of the AVI ADM 9.1s. Can a turntable be used with that ok?

Suggestions for cables would be greatly appreciated too.

I think so. I am sure I remember them having one RCA analogue input.

Forgot to ask as well. Dust covers. Do turntables come with them, are they important?

Nearly all budget TT's have lids or Dust covers. Yes they are important unless you're house proud.

As regards the AVI actives, I believe someone mentioned recently that it only has 1 analogue input. If one is all you need then it should be perfect.....

...except the Genie. Sorry! I would say they are, as it keeps dust off the important arm bearings, mechanisms etc.

I used to have a Radius V, and got so bored with dismantling the thing to dust it every 5 mins, had a wooden cover made by the lads in work.

A Rega P2 would do the job rather well, and is *roughly* in the same price range as the genie...

Might the Pro-Ject Debut III USB also be an option? It includes the phono stage all in one box. I realise this would limit the upgrade potential in the future as I'd have to buy a separate phono stage.

It comes supplied with an Ortofon OMB5E. What would be worthwhile upgrades to this?

Is the speedbox a worthwhile addition?

I was in the same position a few months ago, I went for the Genie III, I will admit unusually for me I was led by the looks, it really is a nice looking piece of hi-fi, I will admit that the pure sound quality (fine detail) of this deck is not up to that of my CD player but including the Phone Stage the setup is half the price my CD player was when new so I did not really expect it to be, it has a different more tactile appeal, and I am able to listen to music that I can no longer listen to on CD as it is just to revealing. All in All really enjoying the vinyl experience listening to Roxy Music Flesh and Blood now picked it up for 50p from a local charity shop,

Might be a trick of the eye PW, but is the TT level? It looks a bit down on the RHS compared with the plinth in that photo.

Making sure a TT is level is as crucial as giving it a decent support, maybe even more so...

It is just the photo, was taken from a funny angle then cropped, it is not the best position in the world due to close location of speaker but it is level.
