Agreed, that's a nice price.  Though it doesn't look like this:

It's all in the eyes of the beholder. Smile

Go on, place it in some water, lift the arm to about 45 degrees, lower the lights, light a cigarette lighter (flame set to maximum) and hide it behind one of the feet ...

...it's a North Sea oil platform.

Best £1000 TT

I had this to consider just over a year ago.

Looked at Clearaudio, but most UK dealers didn't actually have any.  Looked at Pro-ject, but most seemed to have them to keep the shelves full, and no-one admitted to really liking them.  Looked at Rega but they were in the middle of launching new models and I was put off by the huge main bearing nut visible when seated which just looked crude.  Wondered about resurrecting my old Linn, but thought I might easily blow double the budget with so many changed parts.  Wondered about Inspire mods but thought no going back.

Ended up with the basic Michell (see sig), which was even more of a bargain because I got the shop model complete with (cheap) cartridge.  Plenty of money too for s/h Rega Fono mini preamp, and expensive interconnect (thanks to a magazine sub).  Spent the rest on LPs and another cartridge I've not even tried yet.  A lovely piece of engineering and remarkably good sound.  Looks nice too.
