I used to have great respect for Roy Hodgson until today's announcement that he had made Rooney captain. Rooney has never done much for England except get sent off in vital games, and in my opinion should not even be in the side.

Roy Hodgson

Seriously, you had respect for the second highest paid manager at the World Cup who, unable to improve on England's performance at the previous World Cup, refused to fall on his sword? Words fail me.

Hodgson inherited a bum hand, which made his job virtually impossible.

But he still took the money.

But he still took the money. The team representing Chile, not noticeably superior to England man for man (e.g. 2 Championship players, England's all from the Premier League) outperformed England which suggests management is key. Hodgson's decision to appoint Rooney as captain confirms his total unsuitability for the job. I'm surprised he has any support left.

I'm not a fan of the man either but I seriously doubt anyone could turn this team around.

English players are technically hopeless and we need to adopt the German model of starting from scratch again and build up a team through the youth ranks. Also too many young players are happy to take the money and sit in reserves in the Premiership rather than gettting regular games.

I also think kids should only be coached in technical skills and shouldn't even be playing a competitive game until 11 years old, without shouty parents screaming at them from the sidelines...

Roy Hodgson

While it may be true that English players are technically inferior, it's still the case that a good manager can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, at least to the point of getting out of the group stage. Hodgson couldn't even manage that and he was the second highest paid manager at the World Cup.  If this isn't failure on stilts I'm not sure what else he has to do to demonstrate his incompetence.

Let's be frank, all the English team play for top clubs - Man U, Man City,  Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea - a half decent manager/coach should be able to get them to perform to a much higher standard than Hodgson did. The World Cup in Brazil was an utter disaster and no doubt the next Euros will be too......

What a joke this is. Like the OP says, he has never done anything to deserve getting made captian for England.

Sony 808 ES Amplifer, PSB imagine B bookshelf speakers, Pro-ject debut carbon turntable, Audiolab 8200 CD player, Pioneer N-50 streamer, Revox B77 1/2 reel to reel player, Sennheiser Momentun headphones and some Atlas cables.
