Should Middle Aged men Drive Convertibles
I'm 48.

I have the CLK convertible because the wife liked it and because she wouldn't sign the loan paperwork for anything else (being an ex-pat Brit, my US credit rating is about the same as Mozambique's so all major purchases have to go on her credit, at least as a co-signer, right now).

So....

Light hearted opinions please...

Hard tops corner better, but I suppose you don't need to worry about those in the US...

Of course they should. There's nothing worse than having a lady on the back seat of the car and her stilletto heels make a hole in the roof. Having to go home and explain that to the wife is hard enough but when it's on her credit, that's impossible. So a convertible with the roof down on hot Texas nights solves that problem. Why only middle aged men? Well young men can't afford a convertible; they can't even afford women in stilletto heels. So yes, middle aged men should definately buy a convertible.

What's wrong with an old Mini with those sliding windows?

Glad to say in my case, it's only the roof on the car (and not the one on top of my head) that is convertible.8)

Not flipping likely!

As I look out of my office window, I spot Interstate 10 (aka The Katy Freeway).

Right here, not at its widest point, it's got four eastbound lanes, four westbound lanes, a two-lane HOV lane down the middle that they switch around depending on time of day, and a three-lane "feeder" surface road down each side.  That's sixteen lanes in total.

Oh, and when they widened it about 10 years ago, they ripped up the railway lines that could / should have formed part of a commuter rail system between the dormitory town of Katy, right past all the big oil companies, into downtown Houston.

These Texans sure as Sherlock love their cars (and trucks).

If they didn't, how would their teenage sons get into the sort of "high jinks" that caused so much entertainment and hilarity in the 80s?
