I don't understand how these

I don't understand how these companies can make money from the telephone equivalent of kicking in your front door and screaming "BUY OUR S###!!!" multiple times per day.

What kind of imbecile would respond by handing over personal details?

If you think you are owed compensation for mis-sold PPI do you ...

Go direct to the company / bank who sold it to you?

Or ...

Use a cold caller from a centre in Bangalore / US prison / British prison / Nigerian teenager etc. and leave it to them?

No loans for years... and I

No loans for years... and I mean years.

Sales people are told to keep pestering and eventually they'll give in... this only applies if the individual is diffident. That sort of counts me out.

I don't see how it can work.

I don't see how it can work.

Premises to lease, electricity, water, telephone lines, computers, staff costs, taxes etc. etc.  How do they pull in enough trade to even cover costs, let alone make any kind of profit?  There can't be enough chronically gullible people in the UK to support even one such outfit.

I guess it's a bit like advertising. I don't understand how the advertising industry can be so lucrative either (given that I do everything within my control to avoid or ignore them and can't understand why anyone wouldn't do likewise) but I suppose 'there's always one' - so the saying goes - and so long as he/she buys everything they are lied to about, then it keeps another borderline criminal  occupation busy and rich.

‘Hanging up’ without speaking is probably the best system but for repeat offenders or those in the UK who ought not to be calling as I’m registered with the ‘telephone preference scheme’ (waste of time) I either tell them I’m reporting them or if on the PC & got music on I ask them to hold for a minute & leave them listening to some Dylan (the long track 'Tempest' is ideal) while I make a cup of tea, they have always been gone when I return a few mins later  Diablo ('Lily, Rosemary, & The Jack Of Hearts' is also a good one)

Yup, Dylan would send me packing too Biggrin

Pressing 9 does indeed work.

Pressing 9 does indeed work. I was being pestered on my mobile. Simply press 9 and it cuts off the call and stops that number from calling again I gather. The number I am getting has reduced drastically.
