New (to me) Car Again
English

New to me, after the CLK350 got "shortened".

Not so "hairdresser" this time Smile

2008 Merc AMG CLK63 convertible.  6.2 (not 6.3) litre V8, 475 bhp.  Zero to sixty time is reported as 4.1 or 4.2 seconds, speed is restricted electronically to 155 mph.  Unrestricted speed, according to the MB users manual is closer to 175.

On a run I get close to 20 miles to the US gallon, or about 25 to a proper gallon.  Around town, it's more like 10 or 12, but with petroll still costing around two quid a US gallon for rgular unleaded over here, who cares?

Oh yeah, can you believe it?  I had it two whole weeks before someone nudged me at a taffic light!  **$%&^$ - ing Houston drivers!

Very nice, BA. Sadly scrapes

Very nice, BA. Sadly scrapes and nudges happen, and it becomes difficult to accept when it's such an eye-catcher.

This is one reason why I restrict spending on a car in little ole England -- darn roads are too crowded.

Got to "rescue" the stereo

Got to "rescue" the stereo command unit and bluetooth puck out of the old one, as the guy who bought the AMG obviously (perhaps wisely) spent his money on the engine rather than the stereo.  Currently I don;t have sat-nav, hands free phone or ipod connectivity but hopefully I'll get that sorted out this weekend, after the car has been inspected post rear-end bump.  The 2008 era Mercedes sat nav isn't the best, no touch screen, just a screen, fiddly controls (you use a littel joystick to pick out letters to set an address, for example) and it's driven off a DVD which is de facto always out of date.  I haven't been able to find a decent after-market unit that fits the car without some tacky make-up cover for the dash and which also drives 4 channels plus a centre channel plus a subwoofer, which the CLKs all have.  If anyone has ideas please let me know - it's a 2008 W209 post facelift chassis, if that helps.

I reckon the idiot behind hit me at about 15 mph, maybe less. The jolt was enough, at over three g's, to cause the automatic roll bars behind the passenger seats to pop up.  It had to be three g's because that's what the manual says activates the roll bars.  The wife got a whiplash, an ambulance ride to hospital, a CT scan and enough hydrocodone (synthetic opiate) to keep her happy for a week.  She'll probably get $10K out of the other guy's insurance as a result, which will pay the downpayment on her new car when the lease on her Lincoln MKZ (a Mundane-Oh in a party frock) runs out in October.  The bump also caused a brake light to go out (and changing the bulb didn't fix it), so maybe the bulb holding unit inside the lamp needs changing.  Also the safety restraint system (airbags to you and me) warning light is on now.  That'll probably just need an electrnoic "reset" (I hope).  It's going into the Mercedes dealer just down the road from where I work tomorrow to be checked out, so I'll find out.  I just hope there's no major damage behind the plastic bumper....

Oh, and our cat died of heat stroke...
