Life is difficult
English

Some of you may notice I've been away. Life has been difficult. I've been made redundant from my job in The City two months ago and my girlfriend committed suicide last month and my mum passed away last week.

Hope everyone else is okay but life isn't too good with me.

RE: Life is difficult

You have my huge sympathy.......I have also dealt with the suicide of someone very close, while dealing with back problems (resulting in surgery) and a house with dry rot.....so know how tough it can get. It puts the silly arguments on here into perspective.

That sounds awful. Posting your bad news on this forum suggests you're looking for support you think may not be available elsewhere and you may be right.  My experience is that friends step up if they're asked to but we Brits can be reluctant to put ourselves forward both as supporters and as those in need. Don't be afraid to let your friends and family know you're struggling (if indeed you are).

Sorry to hear about your huge loss. I agree with others; you should seek help to cope with it.

RE: Life is difficult

Thanks guys. I'm currently just focussing on CFA qualification and on my fitness. Never thought I'd be studying for exams at 36. Life goes on I know. I don't actually have friends and I don't really speak to my siblings anymore.

So lonely on my own sometimes but I'm determined to turn things around.

Good to hear you have things to focus on and determination - that's a damn good sign!

That said, don't feel you need to do this by yourself... that's a hell of a lot to ask of anyone... I really would encourage you to see your GP, if only for a chat and nothing else

Regardless of the hardships any of us may be going through, I doubt, by the sounds of it, any of us are in the OP's situation. I personally have not experienced anything the OP has gone thought, so I can't imagine what ours going through DV, but you have my sympathies. Look for positives, I'm assuming that's all we can do.

RE: Life is difficult

I've had a very easy life by comparison, but my wife certainly had a bad time of it and based on her experiences, I've got agree that talking to someone is definitely a good route to go down. Her life has essentially been turned around from depression / eating disorders / serious childhood trauma, all through talking therapies. If you haven't anyone you feel you can talk to in your own life, then as has been said, visit your GP and see what support services there are in your area - it's amazing what there is out there, most of which is free, and it will really help.

The whole "stiff up a lip" culture of Brtiain is ultimately not a healthy way to deal with these things.

I don't know what to say but I feel for you.  It must be terrible, but it will get better.

Obviously I don't know the history of why you don't really speak with your siblings but it's never too late to pick up the phone and say "hi!".  A cleaner at my place of work hadn't spoken to his brother for a long time (18 years!) and he popped round and was very glad he did.  You may find it's a distraction which might be a help to you.

Can't even begin to imagine what you're going through. I'm on the other side of the coin: going through a period of deep depression and thinking that I really don't want to be here. Then I think of the two young boys I'd leave behind and my elderly parents who'd lose one of their children and realise that I just can't do it no matter how low I get.
