BBC Audio CDs have started up again.
English

The BBC have started selling audio CDs again after the demise of their previous CD publisher 'AudioGo'.

The new label is 'BBC Physical Audio' and they appear to be ramping up a lot more releases (old and new ones) between now and December.

I missed this news item back in March but it explains ...

Needless to say (many of you know what a BBC radio 'freak I am') I have already placed a few pre-orders.

A lot of this material is available to download on 'Audible.co.uk' (an Amazon UK service) but the quality is execrable and the bit-rate derisory because they have no respect for the audio demands of well recorded, full-cast, audio drama / documentary content. (The old AudioGo download site used to give you full 256K MP3 files whereas some of the Amazon 'Audible' offerings are less than 56K.)

So I am happy the BBC have a new partner for publishing their audio CDs and I can get ripping again very soon Smile

Wish they'd release

Wish they'd release Earthsearch I + II and Outbreak of Fear on CDs. I remember finding them as 96k mono downloads on a website in 2010 (can't remember if the website was officially endorsed to stream old BBC radio plays or if it was somewhat 'dodgy') but I figured I'd give them a miss anyway.

Earthsearch  I & II are available on Amazon UK as downloads via Audible.co.uk for £14.95 ...

... assuming you are ok with 64k (or less) download quality.

The original CD version might get re-issued (it was originally published in 2006), under the new partnership with Random House, but it might not. Otherwise keep a look out on ebay for used ones.

I have managed to find a few good 'out of print' BBC CD titles on ebay in the past.

Thanks. Looks like that download, or an illegal stream of it, is what I found in 2010. Think I'd rather keep the off-air tapes I made when it was first transmitted in the early 80s than pay for a 64kbit download. I'll need to look-out for a used CD.

The five "Outbreak Of Fear"

All five "Outbreak Of Fear" episodes were repeated back in late April -  May this year on BBC Radio 4 Extra.  Bad luck.   (I can't find them on CD or download anywhere.)

Not to worry, I didn't even

Not to worry, I didn't even know BBC had ever repeated them. I'll just have to watch out for them appearing again, but I guess it won't be very soon.
