Anthony Wedgewood Benn passes
English

I am not going to start cooing over how sad or how great as is normally the case here, but he definately shaped British politics and challenged the mainstream, however misguided he may have been.

First Bob Crow, now Tony Benn. Typical unionists - one out, all out.

I think Tony Benn deserves more respect than you're giving him.

He was principled and honest, qualities distinctly lacking in any modern politician, qualities that I greatly admire. He was ceratinly to the left, too far to the left for me, but we should all mourn his passing, because there's no-one left like him.

Hal Douglas died yesterday aged 89 and he was much more famous, RIP.

I find it very tasteless on these threads when people attach a value to someone's existence.

Let's keep this one clean folks, two people have died, whatever you think of them or their politics there's no need to send the insults flying. We'll stamp that out very swiftly.

And I bet you any money you had no idea what his name was before yesterday, ergo, not famous at all.

Tony Benn's voice was quite distinctive: Kenny Everett did a great impression of him (beard included)

Ah, and he was a ex-RAF pilot.
