RE: American Fridge/Freezer assistance please

My understanding (expat') is that the climate ratings are dependant on refrigerant. I would have expected efficiency to increase with increased temperature differential, insulation being constant. Otherwise, if as you suggest, the ratings are about insulation, why 4 classes? I am happy to be corrected and will be investigating.

BB - a possible avenue maybe.

Ok, maybe it is the type of refridgerant that is the main driver for the climate ratings.

However for the efficiency we are entering the realms of the second law of thermodynamics. Your appliance is a form of heat pump, and for a heat pump operating on an ideal Carnot Cycle, the Coefficient of Performance is calculated as (T hot/ (T hot - T cold)). So as T hot  reduces nearer to T cold, the Coefficient of Performance increases. This means that your appliance needs less electricity for its pump, to extract a given amount of heat from inside your appliance.

Sorry for introducing equations, but they are the simplest way to explain the concept I am trying to explain.

Laughingly my reply from Samsung suggests I educate myself with the link above. Its a.great link which fully supports my argument and somewhat shoots them in the foot. It fails however to answer any of my questions. This could be a long one ...
Moral - don't expect Samsung to understand anything about freezers.
Maybe they are just trying to give me the cold ahoulder?

Although normally the retailer is responsible for mis-selling. Samsung supply product specs to retailers - each retailer has the same info. I wonder who will put up their hands?

I'll wait for Samsungs reply but I am prepared for small claims, trading standards, BBC Watchdog .. Bring it on Sammy

It's the retailer you need to contact, not Samsung. If Samsung has misinformed the retailer about specs, the retailer will take it up with Samsung.

Agreed, insofar as it comes to 'getting what you're entitled to'.

RE: American Fridge/Freezer assistance please

Well done Robin, good to see people folllow through with a matter.

My Samsung F/freezer [american style] had a problem with the fridge fan getting iced up and stopping.  It was repaired under warranty and put down to an incorrectly located thermostat but I wonder if the problem was more to do with incorrect rating.  At the time we only used this house at weekends and holidays and temperatures could well have got down to 10C or less, which may have been the cause.

One reassuring little tale from the repair man.  One of my f/freezer types blew the back off a house and three others blew up because of a part fault, my unit didn't have the offending part.  HOWEVER, that was some years ago now and won't affect you.

RE: American Fridge/Freezer assistance please

The thermostat issue was very common leading to the breakdown of my 3yr old. 8n trying to repair it British Gas 'broke' it and I managed to wangle a brand new replacement. Double the cost of the original and 5 yr guarantee. Hence a reluctance to get this one replaced but if it ain't right then it ain't right..I'll wait for Samsungs reply but will probably need to claim from the supplier ao..com - who in fairness were very efficient. Saturday delivery (seriously dented doors) followed by a Sunday delivery & installation.

Original breakdown was in January so the Saga is becoming a long one.

Isn't it surprising that the world's leading tech review site doesn't have some advice for you? Wink

Good to know the tubbies are on hand for advice and assistance. International Rescue could do no better. PS Miscellaneous and Off Topic are worth a Google. Cheers.
