RE: T minus 18 days.

I got it a couple of days ago. It's gooooood! A few of the tracks are in a similar vein to the 'Damnation' tracks and some are a little old school proggy. The Spanish guitar on track three, I feel the dark, is a different vibe for them, but I really like it. It's aninstantly accessable album. I've only had three listens but it's under my skin already. If it was 7.43 am, it'd be on right now. loud!

I may, or may not, have gotten the cd on the dodge, a few days before release, but I will be getting the vinyl when it comes out, so the Opeth boys will still be getting their money out of me Smile

No fair!!!Crying

I don't know how you managed that one Bretty, it's not out until tomorrow.

I've only heard Devil[s Orchard, and even that was only streamed through my laptop and sounded awful (not the song, the quality).

Although I haven't received an email confirming it's been dispatched (not the first time that's happened), I'm hoping Play have posted it out and it's sitting on my door mat when I get home from work tomorrow.pray

RE: T minus 18 days.

Annoyingly, Play only posted it yesterday, so tomorrow is the earliest I'm likely to receive it.banging head against wall

It's Play's inconsistencies which annoy me. The new Dream Theater album was here waiting for me last Monday on the day of release.

Thanks for the link John, but I'm holding off until the CD arrives, as Spotify through my laptop's headphone out into the Arcams sounds pretty ropey....... I don't know how long my will power will last though.....pray

Opeth – Heritage

Who'da thunk it - an album that doesn't sound 'wooly' via Spotify Shock

Mmm, me likey Heritage - pleasingly electic, also very partial to the effortless, tight and fluid playing-style  excellent!

[EDIT] Now on my fourth listen Smile

Good review from the Beeb: "Heritage will surely be seen as one of their most accomplished works."

For full review - clickety  good job

I do like it, but I do also miss the heavier elements of albums past.

It does seem to be a grower, as I preferred it with each of my 3 listens last night.

The 'making of' DVD also seemed to be more of a 'chat about the making of' DVD.

It does sound lovely though.

Hey Matey,

You know it took me three listens before I realised that there was no growling going on on the record. It's defo a lighter affair by them. Something is worrying me a little though. I liked the album instantly, and the feeling grew with each listen, but after 5 days and about 20 listens i'm getting a little feeling of boredom creeping in. I think possibly they've made this record a bit too accessable.

RE: T minus 18 days.

Well, with a few more listens under my belt, I can't help but feel a little dissappointed. It's far from a bad album, but it's also far from the anticipated masterpiece I know Opeth can produce.

Oh well. Play have posted out the new Steven Wilson CD, so hopefully I'll have that on the day of release, and hopefully it'll be a corker.
