Another fan here too, though to my shame all I own is a Hits Compilation CD from a few years back (£2 from FOPP), plus Dusty in Memphis (the one with both Stereo and Mono mixes). Both get a spin every few months or so when driving around in my van at work.

Both superb I agree, but not head and shoulders above all others. I can think of plenty of other excellent female singers - Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior, Linda Thompson to name but a few....

Fair play - in terms of British Soul or R&B singers she has few rivals IMO.

The other day purchased a Dusty Springfield 'best of' CD and wow what a voice she had. Grew up listening to lot her 60s stuff, and you hear her played on the radio.
The remastered cd is something else.
The best British female vocalist? I'd say so and some.
