Blade Runner V's Tron Legacy
hi everyone, Iv've just been thinking which is better? Vangelis or Daft Punk? I always been a big fan of Vangelis and listened to lots of his music over the years, not just Blade Runner. But Daft Punk's rampaging soundtrack to Tron Legacy is stonkingly good. The question is, which is better?
The difference being that Daft Punk's soundtrack is the best thing about Tron: Legacy, whereas Vangelis' score is just part of the enduring genius that is Blade Runner....
+1
Good point Clare. Although the visuals are pretty spectacular. I'm not sure about 3D, but I have ordered Tron in 3D just to give it a go. This is 3Ds one and only chance to shine. I agree the story was all but none existant, but the bass in the soundtrack is amazing. I bet my MA RXW-12 will shake the house down to its foundations.
As no one got any thoughts on the merits of the two soundtracks? I think that the Bladerunner soundtrack was ground breaking. How do people think the Daft Punk soundtrack will be remembered?
Hmm, I saw it in the cinema and the 3D was extremely subtle, to the point of almost being non-existant, which wasn't a bad thing but I personally wouldn't choose it as a 3D showcase.

True. If you don't mind that the film is rubbish, then Saw VII has great 3D. Also, the lantern scene in 'Tangled' i've heard is very impressive in 3D. Claudia Winkleman wouldn't stop harking on about it on Film 2011. I watched the non 3D bluray of it the other day, and it is the perfect kind of scene for 3D. Good flick, too.
The Tron soundtrack I thought really suited the film, but when I listened to the album, without the context of the film, I found it boring.
I loved Tron for what it is! thoroughly enjoyed it but I must admit the doppleganger of jeff bridges was really poor- they could of added a different baddy altogether- loved the Soundrack
Blade Runner- all in all beautiful package and so ahead of it's time! A masterpiece in my eyes...and ears!
Well Tron Legacy 3D dropped through the door on Saturday and it seems a lot more 3D than when I saw it at the pictures. The depth of field is very good surprisingly. But 3D can't do panning shots. The judder is terrible. The only saving grace is the sound track. If you ever needed to show off how low your system can go, then spin this disc up. The bass is just mad. I thought the plaster boards were going to fall off the Walls.
Mmmmm...... Watched Tron Legacy last night. Biggest load of rubbish I've watched in a while, and I watched 'The Tourist' on Monday night! The story (yes, I think there was one in there somewhere) was dire. I was actually bored by the whole thing. I will concede it did have the bassiest soundtrack I think I've ever heard and there was some nice use of the 7.1 soundtrack. Don't think it's gonna be making its way into my collection.
Great system tester. We'll be using it for demo purposes as far as audio is concerned. As for 3D, maybe the panning issue may be a little different on different projectors. We'll initially be using it on the JVC projectors, but we'll have the Epson 3D models at some point, so will be interesting to see if they vary in this respect.
The plot's not much to write home about, and the script isn't the best (Although I happen to think the line about not knowing how to describe a sunrise was quite clever!) but visually it's spectacular, which is what you want from a Tron movie. I quite enjoyed it, for all its faults.
Just finished watching Tron 3D on blu ray and besides the thin plot OMG, I saw this in IMAX 3D and I felt the blu ray did a better job showing of it's content. I personally had no judder or panning problems. The sound track on my system sounded better than I remember at the cinema ( that might just because it's the first disc I heard with my new setup). I don't think it's just the amount of bass BTW, I think it sets the atmosphere up well too, a 360 degree treat.
O/A blade runner is just so much better on different levels, for one you need to use your brain a little with it.
Hi markjaspi, my original post was more in relation to the two films soundtracks, rather than their content as stories. But its good to know you are enjoying your new system so much. Tron will definitely test it and show up any little set-up problems that might need ironing out. i.e. Sub placement or equalisation.
I am a big fan of Blade Runner and your right it is a very good soundtrack...but Daft Punk have done an amazing job on Tron and this film won't be rememberd for its story but it MUST be rememberd for its soundtrack - stunning!!
