Albums you've tried to like...
There's quite a few albums that I feel like I should enjoy but they just don't do anything for me. The classic example for me is Beach Boys: Pet Sounds - it's always at or near the top of the best albums ever charts. I bought it ages ago and every so often I dust it off and have a listen, and I really don't get what the fuss is about!
Ducking for cover!
Well The Beach Boys is not exactly 'sit down and listen' music is it? If they come on the car stereo then fair enough but that's about it...
I've loads of CDs I'd given up on. Now they're all ripped on my NAS and I stream them randomly I'm hearing stuff I'd forgotten I had and liking / disliking in equal measure.
For me its Nirvarna Nevermind. One of the first albums I've ever owned but can't get into it.
Yeah but, like the rest of us, you only bought it for Smells Like... didn't you?
Rush could never get into them.
Pet Sounds is OK.
Found A Love Supreme quite difficult and challenging.

The xx - xx
I used to be the same. The first hi-fi store I worked for had it as a demo disc, and one of the guys there would be playing it all the time, and to me it just sounded like noise. After endless ear bashing with this (what seemed, at the time) distorted mess, it just hit me and I've loved it ever since.
That's because it's over-rated rubbish and always has been. edit: I didn't say "rubbish" there incidentally...
I love everything else she's ever done, even Medulla but Bjork's Volta is just dross, I've tried and tried, even subjecting myself to that idiot from Anthony and the Johnsons repeatedly (he guest drones on it) but it's not happening.
Spent about two years trying to love kid A. Hated it... Then another couple of years later I finally understood it.Total brilliance!
Pet Sounds is good, but I wouldn't want to listen to it all.
Loved Nevermind from day 1. Absolutely one of the top 10 albums of all time IMO.
Kid A... Put me off Radiohead and haven't bothered since.
For me, Kind of Blue by Miles Davies. I tried to get into a bit of Jazz, bought this and listened a few times. Yes, it's superb musicianship, but music...nah. Gathering dust now.
I also didn't like Kid A or Amnesiac to begin with but I got back into Radiohead with In Rainbows and now I absolutely love them both.
I'm interested to know how people decide whether something might be a grower that's worth persevering with or how and when you decide to give up on it.
First album that sprang immediately to mind is Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. I'm quite a VM fan but that album I have found impossible to like over the years, and I have given it plenty of opportunities to.
.
This will probably get a bit of a reaction, but, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon.
Having being told by many, many people how awesome this album was, I bought the Special Edition a few years back, and... nothing, couldnt undeerstand the fuss.
A few laters ago, I tried again, bought it again, having sold the first copy as "over the top 70's cr**" to the highest bidder. Opinion?? Just as before, I just didnt get it. So recently, I tried again, having heard "Time" somewhere. And again, I still feel it is "over the top 70's cr**".
Ironically I love "The Wall", and some of Roger Waters solo stuff is superb. I just dont get the Dark Side of the Moon hype at all. Excellent cover art though!!
Pffft, overrated, it's just a bloody prism, we did THAT in junior school!
I've never actually heard DSOTM...
