'Robin Hood' Crowe's accent debacle. Solved?
Borrowed this from my parents (who frustrate me by still buying DVD despite having a BD player).
I have a theory. He has his broad regional accent when he's regular Robin Longstride, but when he has to pass himself off as Robert Loxley he has to adopt Loxley's accent. I mean, who's gonna believe he's made his way back from the holy land and picked up an Irish accent on the way?
Is this not the case? I know they don't flat out say "You don't sound like Loxley, you'd better drop your accent".
Have I not watched it closely enough? I think the accent swap coincides with the role-play as Loxley, but didn't enjoy it enough to warrant another viewing to support my tEDITEDy.[:D]
Feel free to pick my theory to shreds.
I dunno mate, but his accent was so poor that I had to stop watching. I made it about twenty minutes in.

Eh?
Big Chris:Eh?
You know BC despite the fearsome exterior I've always suspected you were a kind and generous soul, now I think we have the proof...

Really?
Funny how no-one commented on his appauling Spanish accent in Gladiator.
A case of just being too fussy maybe? It's only a movie based on myth and legend. No-one is claiming it to be factual.
although I read somewhere that back in the time of Robin Hood the English accent was quite similar to today's Irish accent (as determined by how certain words rhyme from poetry of the day).

Well, you're certainly being very generous to Mr. Crowe...

You may have a point Chris but I too cannot be bothered to see it again to check. It was deathly dull and confused and imo possibly worse than that. And those damned kids stood around looking like tweenies who have seen too many episodes of Teh Tribe (tho ashamed that i even know of it)*
*Also discovered today there is a music genre called donk. God, i need to get out!
