New Verve Album is a masterpiece
Was wondering how many people have bought the new Verve album and what they think about it.It`s as good as Urban Hymns but takes a couple of listens to properly get into.Got to be one of the best albums this year along with Coldplay and Paul Weller,it`s confirmed what I`d thought for a while now,The Verve are better than Oasis, good as they are.Just hope they stick together this time, thy`re too good to not be releasing music,Ashcroft solo was very good, but together they`re just amazing.Just need to see them live now, they were outstanding at Glastonbury. There, feel better now.

Saw them (Verve) live at the Eden sessions. Not really my sort of music but really enjoyed it. Richard Ashcroft is a damn good front man.
Not buying the album though

Couldn't agree more. Do you think that they would be as a big if he hadn't met Paltrow? Their albums are average.

But anyway, yes. Even if they are "rubbish"©.

totall agree, average at best, tbh when i listened to x&y couldn't tell when one track ended and another started
There's good tracks on the new Verve album but a few do sound like Ashcroft solo tracks with a session band. You can read our review (and more) in the new issue, out on 18th September...
The live sets this year were good (saw 2) but, alas, that's the last time you'll ever see them together on stage...

How will I sleep at night!!
Seriously though, Ashcroft has done the classic rock star thing and got too big for his Winkle Pickers! Once Noel Gallagher said that he was the greatest rock and roll singer in the world and that the Verve were the greatest band in the world (which he has also said about Ocean Colour Scene), Big Rich got stuck up his own.........you know what I mean.
Despite being dissapointed with their recent offerings, I thought Coldplay's debut was simply a great album, one of my faves from that year. I went to the same uni and heard their early sets live, so I may be somewhat biased though...
Verve's new album does indeed sound like Ashcroft's solo work. I dont like his tendancy to let the tunes ramble on for so long
