Pre CD, albums (LP's) were about 36-40 mins long - Rainbow on Stage was a double live album that was one hour long - maybe less !  As such with the advent of CD at lot of 'albums' these days should, at over an hour long probably be classed as double, however...I assume we're talking about classics

There are probably a few to be fair but I can' think of too many 'studio albums' at this moment but excluding live albums, collections + remastered packages..................

I agree, Physical Graffiti is one of (if not) the greatest double albums ever, however it wasn't all new material being as it was a collection of new songs and outtakes from previous albums eg Houses of the Holy from (d'oh) Houses of the Holy

Others that spring to mind are..

Layla - Derek & the Dominoes - Like Monopoly & Cluedo every house such own a copy

Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan

Eat a Peach - Allman Bros - although again not all new material

Technically GNR's Use Your Illusion's 1 & 2 were originally material for one album - although (in my humble opinion) much of what ended up on part 1 was filler!!
