Buying music - where do you shop?
Just wondered where everyone recommends for getting CDs.
I occasionally use HMV (only music shop in town) but also use Play.com (cheap but slloooooooww) and others.
Anywhere do music foir a decent price that actually posts the products in less than a week?!
Waiting for a CD from Play and it's taking forever. I'd actually rather pay a bit more and get it quickly.
Amazon, almost exclusively. You can choose how quickly it arrives, for extra cost - or you could become a prime member which has postage cost benefits.

Play.com all the time for me.
Only time I ever use HMV or Virgin....Sorry...'Zavvi', is when I get gift vouchers at Christmas/Birthdays.
Been using Play almost exclusively for about 5/6 years now. 99% faultless service. Only problem is that very occasionally, they don't seem to have copies of new releases to send out. But like I said, this is very, very infrequently.
Prices are better than the high street, new releases are normally sitting on my door-mat on the day of release (I have had stuff a day or two before release date in the past.)
The sales and offers are normally good too.
Hmm - maybe I'll give Play more of a chance.
Took them two days to post it and four days later, nothing has arrived.
Hardly super slow but when I can get surfboard fins (!) from the States in four days or a G Shock watch from Hong Kong in five, it does seem rather slow.
In my experience, Ebay shops are a lot faster than most of the retailers on-line - the worst being "bricks and mortar" retailers with an on-line presence - no way of checking if their service is any good (i.e. no feedback rating) and the distinct old world idea that posting takes a week or two.
mainly Swedish Web sites, and Music wow. and What Records for the mail order black stuff.
i use play.com for convenience, but on the high street i use hmv or zavvi, prefer the later tbh, as i lilke to have a good browse and a listen, its just not the same pressing a button,then having it arrive a few days later by post
Amazon for me when purchasing from the web. Mainly FOPP at all other times.

HMV annoyed me too many times their DVD prices are just huge, go next door to woolies and their always cheaper...the windsor one is usually staffed by kids who dont care 2 jots about anything
Have built up a nice collection of 60's/70's psychedelia and most of it isn't available on your local high street so mainly use amazon marketplace for shipping from the US and occasionally ebay and lpcdreissues.com in Greece. Did use the Freak Emporium website quite a lot as well but they closed last year, Shame.
More modern stuff I tend to get from play.com.
Three places mostly, 1: a local record store that has an awesome collection of alternative collection. The only downside is that the people that work there are very grumpy, I've bought more than 100 cd's from them if I recall correctly and they've never given me a welcome. Secondly, the electronics store where I work. Terrible selection but very competitive prices, and I get a nice discount being an employee. And thirdly and lastly, bol.nl, the Dutch equivalent of Amazon. Decent selection, very good prices, and fast shipping.
Lots of places but looking at the last 6 months
HMV, Zavvi, Amazon and Tesco more or less in that order of preference (well £ value of spend on CD's at least)
For some stuff you can't beat the net obviously, but HMV do have some cracking offers and often hidden gems that you probably wouldn't browse for - it's just a question of sorting the wheat from the chaff. Over the last few months I've picked up most of Jethro Tull's back catalogue on CD (the remastered and extended editions) at 2 for £10 - and frankly that's a bargain whichever way you look at it - er, unless of course you don't like Tull!!! Although I did pay £14 for 'This Was' on the 2cd Collector's Edition.
Strange, I order from Play all the time for DVDs and Blu-Rays - worst case is usually 3 working days - depends on postman usually, they are despatched normally that day.
