Re: Best intro you've ever heard?

I've always loved the total lack of intro to this song - especially considering the opening words themselves Big Smile

Re: Best intro you've ever heard?

Depends what you mean by "intro" really, I love the way Dissolution (The Clouds Disperse) by Ozric Tentacles builds and builds and then builds and then builds and eventually explodes (in a most artistic fashion...) but it's not quite an intro really.

Similarly I've always liked Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss, the way the opening unwinds itself into the main riff is very good and it always makes me laugh when I recall the fury of some of their "fans" when it was released who accused the band of having written "a ballad"! I guess it is a little melodic for them...

Agreed - what a great intro.

I also really like California Girls and dont judge me - but I love the first two minutes of this too.  All goes a bit rubbish once the singing starts. Smile

Oooh, I forgot The World is My Oyster, an entire intro in itself, which combined with the full version of Welcome To The Pleasuredome, is possibly the 80's finest quarter of an hour...

Favourite musical intros - `Bat Out Of Hell` - Meat Loaf;   `Hotel California` - The Eagles;  `Shine On You Crazy Diamond` - Pink Floyd;   `December`(Narnian version) - All About Eve;   `747 Strangers In The Night` - Saxon;   `Death On Two Legs` - Queen. `Tightrope` - Electric Light Orchestra.

Favourite vocal intro - `Love Transformation`  - The Nolan Sisters. Staggeringly beautiful. Some of you may remember this from the Dulux paint adverts back in the 1970`s.

Massive Attack - Angel and Unfinished Sympathy

Rolling Stones - Paint It Black

Neil Young - Rockin' In The Free World

David Bowie - Sweet Thing, Station To Station and Fame

Schubert - Piano Trio #2 In E Flat, Op. 100, D 929 - 2. Andante Con Moto

And when these fellas came on stage at a packed Hammersmith Palais and launched into this, at eardrum-bursting levels, it was epic - 0-100mph in one-second: CLICKETY Big Smile

Have to agree Roger...Gimme Shelter is so recognisable from the first hint of the tune and then my others would be...

The Who - Baba O'Riley...amazing intro and again, instantly recognisable...

And U2 - With or Without You...simple and effective...

Building of an incessant drum beat, the pounding single note bassline, and the one string guitar riff of "The Light Pours Out Of Me" by Magazine...

Love it.

Speaking of Magazine, always thought Permafrost has a distinctive and atmospheric intro. (Haven't posted link cos this site's Quaker-style censorship would object to rude words in lyrics Stick out tongue)
