I've bought quite a bit of music recently:See Post

But this album has been on pretty much every day...its just awesome!
Now technically its Country, but just like with people, I tend to take music as I find it. If I like it....I like it, regardless of Genre:

Her voice is fantastic without too much "warble" that you often get with country singers - LOL Smile
Also the Sound Quality of the recording is outstanding, helped by a stripped-bare mix.

I also have her duet album with Robert Plant but for me this was an instant better fit.

I suggest you try it out on youtube or lastfm:

Let me know what you think....and apologies if you're all aware of her.

Rich.

I quite like the album 'Forget About It'. Little bit saccharine, but ok. Can't stand the Robert Plant collaboration though...

Funny, I've been wondering what all the fuss was about with that album myself.

One of my favourite test tracks of years back was the title track of the compilation mentioned by the OP. Even playing it over and over at Bristol one year didn't put me off it - still love it more than is seemly. Guess it's one of my guilty pleasures.

You mean Now that I've found you?
I only ask as the reply was somewhat cryptic (to my pea brain) Smile

Guilty pleasure indeed!

Most of my music (bar hip-hop) is a guilty pleasure to me!
Love a bit of Phil Collins but wouldn't put it on the jukebox in my local. Which is a shame really, why should music be fashion?
I blame MTV for that.

....and the yoof of today!

Just put it on again and it is fabulous.

Am I overstating the sound quality?
For me its one of the best i've heard for a while, but I do think its easier to make simple acoustic music sound good. On my systems it tends not to show up any timing issues and doesnt allow a system to get muddled....

Still its very good!

There's no doubt that "Forget About It" is a great recording - got a feeling that it's available as a studio master somewhere, can't remember where. Will check out some of the stuff on that compilation.

As for Raising Sand, I remember a review that said it was like "an intimate courtship" (I paraphrase), whereas I think it sounds like they were in different continents when they were recorded (which is of course not beyond the realms of possibility). Watching live performances of them on such as "Later..." just solidifies that view for me...

Edit - just seen 'Now That I've Found You...' on Youtube - very good; love her with Union Station (antidote to 'saccharine' comment earlier) - in fact, their soundtrack for 'O Brother...' kind of helped me discover Eastmountainsouth and Peter Bradley Adams' solo work.

Final edit - talking of guilty youtube pleasures...

Ha! LOL
Guilty as charged!
Ronan has destroyed that song, unfortunately but she has done a great version of it.

I forget the original artists name but I can remember it was from 1988 (not that I can actually remember but I wiki'd it)

I dislike country, but my guilty pleasure are the dixie chicks, with their cover of 'Top of the world'. Class, class song. I'd recommend anyone who hasn't heard it to give it a go.
