5 discs you'd bring to the demo room.
You've busted a gut with overtime, canceled the gym membership you never used after January and flogged that pro logic amp on ebay that you left in your mums attic.
Now with knowledge hoovered up from reviews, forums and experience of previouse models ,you head to your trusty dealer for the audition. What five discs do you bring? Heres mine.
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon.
Charlie Mingus - ah um
Dire Straits - Money for nothing
Prodigy - Music For jilted generation
Carlos Santana- Black magic woman
rage against the machine will raise an eye brow or 2 !!
I use these a lot:
I see where you're coming from with Bob Marley. I am legend on blu ray springs to mind.I think there is an anniversary c.d edition out as well.
yeah i know, used it to demo in the past, and it did raise an eyebrow, but it's an album i know ,back to front and inside out, as it were.coolaboola:rage against the machine will raise an eye brow or 2 !!
For the moment.
REM . Automatic for the People
Aphex Twin - Selected ambient works
Sepultura - Chaos AD
Sigur R¢sÿ-ÿMeÐ suÐ ¡ eyrum viÐ spilum endalaustÿ
Damien Rice - Oÿ
Leslie Feist - Let it Die
A Love Supreme
Clapton - Slowhand
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
and the planets suite.
Leftfield - Leftism
Carry on up the charts - Beautiful South
Sleep through the static - Jack Johnson
Credit to the edit - Greg Wilson
Amplified Heart - Everything but the girl
ÿ
"Night Ride Home" - Joni Mitchell
"Face Value" - Phil Collins
Black Album - Metallica
"A Trick of the Tail" - Genesis (original Japanese Atco release)
"The Rite of Spring" - Stravinksy (can't recall the particular recording offhand, but it's good!)
morcheeba - big calm. That deals with almost everything above bass.
lisa lashes extreme euphoria, as ive played it to death and a few tracks are very layered and very fast/hard in the bass.
Thats all i need except a car audio test cd that came free with a mag. Not really music.
Tracy Chapman (from April 8
- lyrically fantastic sound
Ben Webster (Verve years) - aching saxophone
Black eyed peas - Monkey business (bass, volume & thrash)
Hi-fidelity Lounge Volume 3 - all round acoustics
Acoustic Love - no credibility but sounds good
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (because I know it inside out)
Fugees - The Score (good for low end test)
Massive Attack - Mezzanine (know this one inside out too)
Radiohead - OK Computer (very intricate)
And one new one,
Burial - Untrue (the mercury nominee - Ive been listening to this a lot since I bought it and it sounds great on my existing system)
Mogwai - My Father My King
Shellac - 1000 Hurts
The Bug - London Zoo
John Martyn - Solid Air
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children
AC/DC - Back In Black
BT - This Binary Universe
Leftfield - Leftism
Murcof - Cosmos
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
I only take three.
Sarah Brightman - La Luna Her version of `Winter In July` as I want to hear how good her vocal sounds on the system and it`s also a fairly modern beat/production (well it is for me anyway)
The God Machine - Scenes From A Second Storey lets me know how well the system can handle a grungey sound.
Rush - Fly By Night although this cd is remastered it doesn`t sound that good. It`s fairly quiet and flat and is a real tester for a system. Most I`ve tried struggle with this album.
