Steves hi fi
Steves Hi Fi has really come through for me, yet again.
My beloved Rotel RCD-991, that I bought from Steve two years ago, died last week. While playing a disc, it made a quick buzzing noise and then lost all power. I thought it was a goner, and started looking for replacements. I was gutted, because the sound from the Rotel is phenomenal, and I know i'd have to spend the best part of a grand to equal it. Anyhoo, Just on the off chance, I gave Steve a call and told him what happened and he asked me to bring it in. He's fixing it now! Obviously he's gonna charge me for the repair, but he is saving my CDP from the rubbish tip, so i'm over the moon!
Thanks Dave, I agree. Having to play cds through my Sony DVD/SACD player for the last week has reminded me just how good the 991 is. Allthough it's 13 years old, i've yet to hear a better player under a grand. Can't wait to get it back.

Yeah, not one of my best ideas to get rid of mine
Haha! You missing it, mate? How's the XTZ bedded in?

Don't interrupt I'm still beating my head lol!!...........the XTZ is chugging along just fine I'm glad to say but the deck had to go I'm afraid
What?! You sold your TT? You feeling ok?

No, but the credit card is.
Been a bit naughty this year so needs must.
The only consolation is that I got a very good price for it so it covers all my costs and I still have a turntable so not too disappointed.
Ah yeah, I see in your sig. Hows the Rega compare to the Thorens?
Well I did find setting up the Thorens a chore if you remember. I did feel it was lacking somewhere and it doesn't matter how good the arm and cartridge are if you can't find the sweet spot on the setup then it's always gonna be missing something.
The P3 needs no suspension setup (as long as it's isolated and level) and after tweaking the arm setup it sounds bloody good and considering what I paid for it I'm very happy (for now!)
I remember you stripping the Thorens down and re setting it up on the Saturday I came round yours. I couldn't be bothered with that faff. If the Gyro was a pain in the EDITED i'd sell that too. I'm glad the Regas being more plug n play for ya!
Oh The Gyro's a dream by comparison, I doubt I'll bother with suspended chassis again......beginning to make me grumpy Bah!Humbug! lol!
EDIT- and that was not the only time I stripped the deck down.

Good news - the 991 is a top player.
