I was at sevenoaks on sat in Lincoln with money in my pocket looking for an upgrade but because my friend and i were dressed in shorts and t-shirts they turned there nose up at us . No hello , no can i help you , When i did ask for help it was pretty much the cold shoulder . The advise i got was short and not helpful in the slightest , it was almost like i was taking his time up because he obviously had other people to serve in an empty shop .

That was the first time i have been to sevenoaks in lincoln and the last

How are you sure it was because how you were dressed?

I had great success with that store a couple of years ago. The chaps bent over backwards to help me. Maybe the staff have changed.

i can't think of any reason Gerrardasnails to be honest , i know i used to buy HiFi equipment from the peterborough branch before moving north and it was always a pleasure to go in there ,

The Lincoln brach i felt like i just played that scene in pretty women  and i didn't belong there

Re: Sevenoaks What a bunch off !!!!!

Maybe it's a good example of why people in general shouldn't judge others from appearance alone........

or maybe not..........perhaps something bad had happened to the sales person and being in a shop selling Hi fi was the last place they wanted to be....I personaly would have asked him if anything in particualar was wrong or bothering him ........you may have been surprised by his or her's answer...it often pays to be as direct as possible...

If they continued to ignore you then off you go...

I was once in a very high end kit shop down south when a guy walked in in heavily soiled construction gear ( covered in oil and other stuff.).....he asked if it was ok to look around ....the retailer said " sure and if you need and help or demonstrations I will be happy to help". The guy pottered off whilst I talked to the owner...

On that first visit the construction worker spent over twenty thousand pounds and paid  mostly in cash......

lol , i like that guys style , he probably would have happily walked away with his £20k if he wasnt made to feel welcome , i cant help thinking he may have had that in mind , hence his choice of clothing ...

Me and a mate were thrown out of a church in Spain because we were wearing shorts. Maybe that guy now works at Sevenoaks?

Unless the OP has held back on information, as I said before, how does he know that he was badly treated because he had shorts on?

Also what colour were the shorts and tee shirts? Maybe Sevenoaks were demonstrating nothing more than good taste.

Yeah we all had jeans and trousers on and felt we got badly treated.

Re: Sevenoaks What a bunch off !!!!!

I once had a Saturday and holiday job at a local hifi/TV/video shop and one day a tramp walked in. Coat tied up with string, old army boots, scruffy, dirty, unshaven etc.

It fell to me to serve him and after just a few minutes talking about TV and VHS players he pulled out an enormous bank roll and asked how much discount for cash for four Grunding 26" TVs and four matching Grundig VHS recorders with trolley stands. Back then a 26" (CRT) Grundig TV was quite a big deal and not a cheap option, and VHS recorders were still quite new and very expensive too. I seem to remember him shelling out about £2500 all-in.

He was buying Christmas presents for all his grown up children. Turned out he was a well known local character who owned the local marine salvage yard.

I went off that day with over £100 commission (and a good tip from the customer himself). That was good money for a teenager for one day's work some 30 years ago.

The basic rule should always be to offer everyone the same level of service, no matter what they look like, unless they are causing trouble or offence to other customers or the staff,
