For the forum's Australian visitors I can heartily recommend;
Cuong Tran @ Sunnybank HiFi - Sunnybank
James Constantinidis @ Videpro Carindale Both provided excellent service and were price competitive.
So how's the hi-fi scene in Brisbane these days. My hi-fi passion all began during Uni days in Brisbane many years ago. My first system was a used NAD 3020 (not e, or bee, just 3020), a Denon CD player and little Mission speakers. Second amp was a Mission Cyrus 2 (in the days that Cyrus was still part of Mission). Memories....
Seems ok - I don't know too many as I've basically been pointed in the relevant direction by the distributors of the kit I've been looking for but far as I can see its alive and well.
My one frustration is the distribution silliness which I've found endemic in every industry in Australia making it almost impossible to test kit alongside other brands - the distributors and retailers here have an obsession with exclusivities here. I found the same nonsense in the flooring industry when I was working in it.
My HiFi obsession started about 15 years ago as a young lad back in the UK and this year is my first foray back to the scene after selling it all to move here in 2000.
Sounds like you've got similar tastes to me - I started out with Denon's groundbreaking AVC3020 av amp and Mission 780's + 76C and now I've gone back to my roots with an AVR-4306 but after they moved Mission to the Shenzen Country Club and they seem to be making some odd-looking kit, I've shifted my speakers to Monitor Audio and couldn't be any happier, particularly since taking delivery of a swathe of Van Den Hul cables and a Cambridge Audio Azur 740C yesterday!
