Play.com should be called Play.con......
Several weeks ago i bought the Band Of Brothers Blu Ray DVD Box set for about £18.00 from play.com having been told they were 'in stock'!!!
I have waited patiently day after day, week after week, but still no sign of the goods payed for by me,so a few days ago i sent them an email asking what had happened to my DVD's box set and much to my horror was told that they were now out of stock and had been for 'several months'!!!????
I asked them to explain why they had told me they had the Band Of Brothers Blu Ray -DVD Box set in supply the moment i ordered, bought and payed for them, but immediately after paying i get an email saying they were out of stock???(Is this theft as they have took my money for goods they already knew full well they hadn't got in stock, but apparently lied in order to get their hands on my money)?
Also the lack of information and concern shown by Play.com in the three or four emails i have received from them shows nothing but utter contempt for customers who have payed for goods in good faith!
Shocking stuff from a so called reputable company!
This was the first and last time i shall ever use this company.
While crusing I even found a play.com instore shop in Norway and that was very nice.
I've never had any problems with play.com and I've bought loads of stuff from them. There are always going to be isolated incidents, especially with bargain buys.
In fact I ordered american pie 5-disc box set for a tenner a year ago, and its still out of stock. I know it will never come. I'm just waiting to see how long it will be before they tell me. Other than that I have had masses of stuff from them over the years.
If Play don't have it Amazon & HMV are both selling band of brothers on blu-ray for £18. So fear not.
While I can understand the OP's disappointment, I think the thread title is something of an overreaction.
gel:While crusing .
have never bought from them, but would be well cheesed off if I ordered something and had to several months for delivery (Think Andrew recently posted a thread stating that he waited a very long time for a delivery?)
When you want something, you sort of want it soon?
very bad business practice in my opinion
Indeed, but as stated above I could have cancelled at any time up to the order being posted. As it was, it was an inexpensive item, a specialist interest R1 disc, and one for which I was prepared to wait. And then which I forgot completely about having ordered!
But now it has arrived, it was worth the wait.
Being the author of a great many e-comm sites though of a much smaller scale, I can safely say this is usual. With our sites it is pretty easy to correct however with operations involving hundreds of thousands of products you can forgive the occasional mistake from this kind of entirely safe(welcome) reputable company.
still boils down to bad business practice .... there are powersellers on ebay who sell several hundred of the same item .... they only list what is in stock .... if no stock, it does not allow you to bid
cannot be that hard to implement a proper system ...a simple microsoft access program would sort that
why go through all the hassle of having to pay for an item, then be dissapointed and having to cancel ... then waiting for a refund?
That is because eBay aren't the company in question, they make their money from protecting rights (within their own tax laws), not selling products.

call it what you want ... I call it bad business practice ... there is a problem .... have read several posts on different forums about this company .... management are aware of the problem and it has not been retified?
like I said, if powersellers on ebay can implement a system succesfully, then so should the company in question .... a good programmer will sort out the prob in a week or 2
...And if you cancel a Play order, you don't have to wait weeks.
dim_span:a good programmer will sort out the prob in a week or 2
Ha, with a programmers schedule? Not likely.
Andrew Everard:...And if you cancel a Play order, you don't have to wait weeks
like I said, have never dealt with this company so dont know all the facts on refunds .... bottom line: one should not have to cancel an order due to no stocks being held ....
ebay sellers operate succesfully ... and can be succesfully implemented in this company .... it's not rocket science
imagine popping into argos ... filling in your little form after checking the computer for availabile stocks .... standing in a long queue for half an hour ... paying ... then waiting a further 15 min to be told ;'sorry ... no stocks available'... go back to the queue for a refund

You'll find every single one of the major online shops have had issues far greater than this tiny blockage. One week it's "Amazon is for the scrap heap" the next it's "Play is worth very serious damnation by God himself".

hi, I think I am understanding this okay, you can cancel the order now still if it has not been posted.
Looks like a massive backlog of orders.
I try ordering star trek blu ray 9.99 in stock they said as soon as it went to checkout back upto 17.99.
But play.com have always been good to me, these kind of problems only seem to arrive on special offers.
Thanks
