Phase 3 Hi-Fi,Worthing
A quick word of thanks to Paul,Roger & George(Roger's soppy Golden Retriever) of Phase 3 Hi-Fi.
For the showrooms relaxed atmosphere, the guy's no-nonsense advice & 'leave you with your music' approach.
Had the privilege,ne honour,to fire-up the Plinius Tautoro/SARef. with a Linn CD12 & compared them side-by-side against the Classe CDP300/CP700/M400.Alternately hooked-up using Atlas Mavros interconnects & speaker cables to drive a gorgeous pair of B&W802D's.
In over 5hrs of demo-ing,i have to admit that to my relatively untrained ears, there didn't seem to be much between them. Both were accomplished performers - each in their own way.More or less coming down to a question of taste.Though the Plinius' tighter bass, natural treble,mid-range's slight warmth(especially when driving in class A) & improved dynamics, against the Classe's fractionally cooler,laid-back sound just about helped it win through...After extra-time!
It may prove to be a question of reinforcing the floor, installing a removable roof - to dissipate the heat from this 60kilo power-amp,warning the neighbours about potential local power-shortages,oh & the small matter of £17,500.
Now,where the hell did i leave my winning lottery ticket?!
BABUR.
