Not impressed with Richer Sounds Glasgow.
Aside from the carsalesmen like atmosphere, twice now I've gone in to get a TV advertised as 'in stock' on their website to find that they didnt actually have it...I tried phoneing beforehand of course to check but they NEVER seem to answer the phone.
Anyway they did have a 37inch version of the 42inch set I was after but would not let me have a look at it...." its the same as the 32inch over there except bigger " said the salesman.
Suffice to say I didnt buy anything and I doubt i'll be back either.
yes they are very good at puting adds for items they dont have,
i tried for three months to get an item they advertised 3 months in a row, never did get it,
the glasgow store hardly ever answer the phone when you ring the store
to see if they have what your looking for, i now hardly ever use them
as its not worth all the hassle- they used to be my favouite hifi shop for a bargain
they dont have as many bargains as they used to..
always phone them fist to avoid dissapointment if you get through ???.
Went into the Southampton store the other day and it was no better. Disinterested staff, poor displays and a small HiFi section gathering dust.
Shame, because this used to be a good shop with helpful staff until fairly recently.
A big thumbs up for the Belfast store. Went there a couple of weeks ago and they were friendly and the guy I spoke to knew his headphones. They were a bit limited with their stock, but they said a chap setting up a recording studio had been their last customer the day before and had cleared them out of certain items. I still got what I wanted and a nice look about as well.
yep I completely concur with negative reports from r.s glasgow. They've gone to the dogs.Bought my first a.v system 6 years ago from them and was a happy camper.Moved back to my native Dublin and travelled to Belfast to get my Cambridge audio 840 amp and dacmagic and monitor audio speakers.Great guys in Belfast.
Returned to Glasgow 2 months ago.I was shocked at how they shot down products within their store(Denon 280
and how pushy they were towards other products in their range.I'm in showroom sales.Nothing I ever sell is 'rubbish' because if it was it has no place in my store.I have now completly switched allegiance to sevenoakes after a very positive experience which saw me leave £800 behind for a yamaha rxv 1900 av amp and an upgrade itch for more.A laid back ,relaxed and not forced retail experience.
In conclusion there is a market for cheap and cheerful and a market fo a shop to be pampered in.But manners are free.
Ok so Richer Sounds, Galsgow is no good any more for hifi (allegedly). However, it is a great place to go on a date and a cuddle ![]()
I've been in the Glasgow store only once, and quite frankly the only word to describe it is "grubby"
I haven't bought anything from them, nor did I bother to speak to anyone, the whole shop is just run-down. There are a few decent hi-fi/home cinema dealers in Glasgow and Edinburgh, so I went elsewhere.
Hi all,
I was most concerned to read all of the comments about the poor service that has been received, specifically at our Glasgow store.
We do put a lot of hard work into trying to ensure we give customers a good experience, indeed we serve many thousands of customers each week with the vast majority being happy with the level of service they receive. However, this most certainly does not excuse the occasions where we have obviously got things wrong, and I'd therefore like to take this opportunity to apologise for this.
To allow us to improve the service we offer to all of our customers, it is important we are made aware of when things go wrong and I am grateful for all of the feedback posted on this thread. I can assure you I shall certainly be addressing the various points raised here with the managers of stores in question.
I feel the comments about products being out of stock a little unfair. All of the deals which we advertise are certainly always available and in-stock either in store or from our warehouse. From time-to-time, especially due to the small size of some of our stores, certain products can temporarily sell out, particularly those that are featured in our ad campaigns / national press. In these circumstances stock is available to order by the store from our warehouse. I can only apologise that the sales assistant you spoke with did not offer to do this.
The only exception to this is when a supplier cannot fulfil the quantities we require despite our regular requests for more stock. Also, we do regularly update our website with regards to stock availability, with expected delivery dates for any products that are out of stock or stating whether stocks are in short supply, etc.
Meanwhile, if any customers are having problems their local store, or would like to get in touch about a specific issue, then please feel free to e-mail me direct at john.p.clayton@richersounds.com.
Many thanks,
John Clayton

Fair enough although I dont see how my point about stock is unfair, it in fact happened with 2 AV amps also aswell as the 2 TVs I went in for and I'm talking about the Glasgow specific website.
Anyway...

Thanks for the post John. Speaking for my own case, I went to the Belfast store to get the AKGs that were advertised in the sale, but they had sold out because of one customer. I had no problem with that because after a very nice chat with the sales assistant ( I wish I had got his name) the Sennheiser PX200s I got instead are excellent and since they fold up are better for my needs. I hope you convey the good news back to Belfast as well as the bad news to the other shops. Thanks.
I have used the Glasgow Richer Sounds many times, most recently to buy a tv for my girlfriend's parents, and I have had no problems at all. They've always had what I've wanted in stock, or if they haven't they have offered to order it in. And they've been very friendly and haven't tried to sell me something I didn't want. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I will quite happily shop there again.
I agree that the shop is a little shabby looking, but the people in the Glasgow branch can't be blamed for that, I don't think. Surely that's a head office decision, whether to do it up or not.
While I have no opinion on the Glasgow store as Ive never been in it I would like to have a wee moan about the website. Now I know it is better to buy instore than online but it is slightly annoying that you can hardly buy anything on their website. It even has the cheek to say 'Some of these web prices may be cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online'. Why have them cheaper online when they can only be purchased instore? A small gripe but annoying nonetheless.
Hi All,
Thank you to everyone for your replies.
I will take all of your feedback on-board (both positive and negative) and shall certainly bear this in mind going forwards to see how we can improve the service we offer to our customers.
Thanks again,
John Clayton
well done mr clayton good to see a company take what the customer
has to say seriously,i hope your company prospers in these hard times
cheers.
I'd second the thumbs up for the Belfast store. I've bought most of my stuff through there over 15 years. Most things I've wanted they didnt have in stock but it was explained clearly to me that they don't carry everything in stock but if the main warehouse had it they could get it. Usually I got what ordered the following week after the delivery. Maybe this is the problem with other shops, they don't explain this clearly enough?
While we appear to have the ear of a Richer Sounds head honcho. What's the deal with the separate .ie website? It's fairly poor and everyone in the shop seems to use the .co.uk website. Also the prices on the .ie site can be much higher than the .co.uk and this can lead you open to criticism as I think someone above pointed out. Why not just have the one site?

My local Richer Sounds store is no better. The staff are incompetent and know nothing about the products they stock or sell. On a few occassions, the 'advice' provided meant little in terms of their suppossed 'knowledge' of their products and I had to correct them.
They couldn't care less when you walk into their store. They just hang around like complete idiots. I stopped going in there for a while now because it is just a useless time wasting experience.
