I posted about www.exceptional-av.co.uk under hot deals but felt they deserved a mention here too.

Not only did I get a great deal on a Q-AV package they allowed my to swap out the free 30m of QED micro speaker cable and replace it with a QED HDMI lead.  They through in a free cleaning pack as well.

The chap on the phone couldn't have been more helpful and even took the lead off the shelf whilst on the phone to me as it was the last one in stock.  All with the What Hi FI 10% discount.

Looks good, although they could do with taking down the competion which I've just entered, and that closed in October!

Another company in the Now group apparently also makes breathalysers!  Stick out tongue

I wouldn't touch exceptional-av with a barge pole unless you want to be let down and pay for the pleasure.

Are you sure you're ready for this?

Digging up a 5 month old thread to make a point sounds like its not going to be pretty!

Yes, yes I know all that - just seemed a really odd thing for someone to say in their first-ever post, digging up a thread last posted on in December 08, that's all...

UPDATE!  This is now resolved and I had a very pleasant call from the MD of exceptional-av apologising for this.  I can now vouch for them and I guess this was an isolated experience after all.  All I can say is that this was exceptionally professional of him especially since he had nothing to gain other than my future custom.  Bravo!

Just had a very poor experience and it is definitely worth digging up an old thread to get it off my chest and warn others.  I am sure others have fine dealings with them, but they have fallen short of my expectations on several levels, mostly comms based.

I purchased a refurbished onkyo receiver and confirmed stock and delivery for today (both via email and on the phone and was assured it was all in hand).  This wasn't easy to do.  The emails they send are very short and so you never really get a full answer (if you get an email).  Even phone calls were ignored, and I had to constantly chase to confirm this delivery date.  So you have to understand I wasn't expecting a miracle from them.  I received a phone call this morning to tell me they were sorry but they sold my amp to someone else yesterday by accident, This isn't a problem, after all, we all make mistakes.  A short courtesy call to explain this yesterday when they were due to ship would have been great, no matter what time of day.  Instead I have wasted a whole day sitting in for a delivery that I was never going to get.  This was quite upsetting, especially when they say that they can't give any date as to when they will get more stock so I will have to have something else.  But I understand this, stock is stock.  What really got my goat was finding out that they had already taken payment and that their online system automatically charges you as soon as you click the proceed button.  Okay, fair enough, they don't have a proper online system, but why not refund me when they discovered their mistake?

At the end of this I would prefer to deal with a retailer that doesn't charge you automatically without a stock check and human order confirmation process.  In fact, I'd be much more comfortable with a retailer who bills you when it ships the goods and not before.  I have ordered an alternative item from them and I was made to feel like this was a deal when in fact it was just their standard price on the website (unless that is wrong - but I had already considered this alternative item prior to making my original purchase).  The only concession is that they are now willing to ship to my work address so that I don't have another wasted day.

As I said, I am sure others have had fine dealings with them but even now I am really not sure what will happen tomorrow.

Re: http://www.exceptional-av.co.uk/

Your mistake skelk, was that you did not register the delivery address as your second home.

That way you could have claimed expenses for having to wait in, plus re-decorating, cleaning the swimming pool, etc, need I go on.

Good luck with the new gear.

I spend enough time at work for it to be considered a second home :)

I also had a few problems waiting just over a month for something that was supposed to be in stock for next day delivery they did resolve everything in the end but found it all quite annoying.

Skelk. If they have taken the money, then they have accepted the contract for the Onkyo and they therefore have to supply you with one that's the same or better for the money you paid. If I were you I would threaten them with court if they don't send you one. I would also arm myself with info from Onkyo's UK distributor about whether there are any delays in getting new stock in at the moment.

Their mistake. They sort it out. Don't settle for a full-price item from them whatever you do.

Re: http://www.exceptional-av.co.uk/

Unfortunately that's not true Joel - they can refund at any point if they wish and don't have to supply anything. If you read their terms and conditions there will be something in there which states this.

We've seen it many times before when other retailers (e.g. Amazon and CD-Wow recently) are out of stock of something and the terms and conditions clearly state the contract for them to provide the item is not until an email has been sent indicating the item has been dispatched. Up until that time, either party is free to cancel the order and a refund processed.
