Re: Frank Harvey Hi-Fi Excellence

We feel no need to strike the post, bob.g (or it would have gone already).

Now let's have no more talk of moderation, from either of you! (As per House Rules...) Big Smile

Re: Frank Harvey Hi-Fi Excellence

When I said strike, I didn't actually mean remove - I actually meant ignore - like I said, I'm always dubious about first time posters as I've seen many on other threads about other retailers. I'm happy for it to remain there, as this is the only non positive comment against us on any forum anywhere. I would only ask for it to be removed if I knew it was a wind up, but you seem genuine, I think if you weren't, you'd be laying into us with all sorts of accusations, which again, I've seen on many forums with other retailers. So I do appreciate where you're coming from, and do feel free to pop in and see us - I'm sure you'll find it quite different from last time.

I'm sure Clare will confirm they've not received a request for it to be removed Smile

Clare did ask that we didn't continue to discuss moderation. Can we move on, please...?

Don't suppose you could open up a store in Guernsey? We could do with a decent hi-fi shop here!Big Smile

I had similar problems when I lived in Jersey! Ultimate Audio in St. Helier seemed to be run by a very decent chap, had a good range of brands, too. Base Sound and Vision were very good also, but seemed to be more focused on installations. Both may be worth a look if you're over at any point, if you haven't already tried them Smile

I did end up buying most of my electrical stuff from the mainland, though. Good old VAT refunds Smile I may be heading back to the CI shortly, so I have a quick question for David: Do you ship to the Channel Islands, and are you able to offer VAT-free shopping?

Re: Frank Harvey Hi-Fi Excellence

I find myself temporarily working in Coventry for a few months and I'm about a 10 minute walk from Frank Harvey. Thankfully I only get a 30 minute lunch break so I don't get a chance for temptation to lead me astray. If it did there would now be a large hole in my savings and a new CD player, Amp and speakers in my living room. If they start opening late during the week I'll have to change jobs again.

Don't worry there - no late nights planned!! Although we're busy enough to justify it, we like a bit of time off! Big Smile

Hoping to pay a visit myself within the next couple of months.

Only hi-fi shop where I live in Stratford-upon-Avon (sure you know which one I mean!) seem only interested in selling the seriously high-end kit - way out of my league! Looking at your site you seem to have all of the kit I want/need to listen to so I'm really looking forward to paying a visit when funds allow!

Re: Frank Harvey Hi-Fi Excellence

I always read David's posts with interest as he is very knowleagble .....

however, I do not always agree with some of his statements .... 2 of the recent ones, were his comments for the Musical Fidelity A5 integrated amplifier which he had this to say:

'The A5 is a big powerful ball of Boring mash - with no heart or sense of musicality'

the other post realted to the AVI 9.1's where he slandered them, but openly admitted that he had never heard them

so, when it comes to hifi sales people, I sometimes take their comments/recomendations with a 'pinch of salt' (especially if they do not sell the said items) ... and I prefer to research and  audition for myself

Re: Frank Harvey Hi-Fi Excellence

I'm merely conveying what I feel about the A5 amplifier, which was part of the range I dealt with at Sevenoaks, and also when I forst started here. Everyone os free to take that as sales speak or my opinion - whichever one you choose, it doesn't really matter! What's important is what YOU think of the item.....

Slander's a strong word. I made my feelings known about the bold claims someone was making. And the nasty phone call didn't help either. Like I said, I'm fully experienced in active systems, having heard, demonstrated, and installed many over the past 20 years, so I do know where active systems sit in the grand scheme of things.

But thanks for the compliment too Big Smile

Hi Sizzers

You're more than welcome. We have over 4,000 products on the website, so without occupying a building of the likes of a John Lewis or a Dixons megastore, there's no way we can display them all. If you follow the link to my blog in my bio, you'll find a list detailing all the products we have on display which are available for demo in store.

Regards

David

David

What headphones do you have, if any for auditioning? I mean being able to walk in and listen without prior arrangement in the same way you will have hifi setup and ready to go. On the headphone part of the forum a few comments have come up about how hard it is to audition headphones, particularly higher to high end.

If you do have any please add them to the thread on shops where you can audition headphones.

Thanks
