Cloney Audio, Dublin - great for years
I bought my first serious HiFi - (A&R Cambridge amp, Mordaunt Short speakers and Linn LP12) - from Cloney Audio 27 years ago. I just bought my third HiFi from them in Feb (Cyrus CD8 SE, 8Vs2 and B&W CM7's). I also have bought every rack upgrade, cable and other audio piece from him since.
While I notice the Celtic Tiger and the relative youth of the staff has dulled their responsiveness somewhat - dealing with Noel himself and the ethos behind the company is still fantastic. If you buy and don't like it you can swap for something else. I originally wanted to listen to the new Spendor A5's but they were unavailable so listened to the B&W CM7's and liked them - when I lived with them for a while I began to find characteristics I didn't like about their midrange and treble. Noel Cloney has arranged a demo pair of A5's for me to take home this weekend and if I like I can swap an pay the difference - great service!
You are free to borrow kit to try at home before you buy and it feels more like family than a commercial organisation.
There prices are great too - closely matching sterling's decrease in value on a week by week basis.
If you want to buy HiFi in Dublin I would strongly recommend Cloney Audio in Blackrock.
I remember going there when buying my first home cinema set-up. their stuff was vastly more expensive that I was looking for, and they knew it! but were really nice to me. Ended up buying a mix from Harry Moore and Richer Sounds, but made a note to go back when I was a "proper" grown-up!
Still not been back then? ![]()
Ha.
(I moved to London for love and money, so never got the chance...)
I have checked out their prices but they always seem quite a bit more expensive than Richer Sounds.. or Munster sounds.. in cork..
