I note the presence on eBay of an "ex-dem" Bryston BP26 pre-amp for just £1,800 (RRP £3,995) and an "ex-dem" BCD-1 CD player for just £1,275 (RRP £2,400), but SuperFi doesn't appear to be a UK dealer authorised by PMC, Bryston's official UK importer and distributor. So, if anything went wrong (with Bryston kit not likely, but not impossible either) and if SuperFi have no repair-under-warranty facilities (how could they, as an online seller offering everything at such very low prices?), PMC almost certainly wouldn't consider any unit sent to them for repair to be covered by any sort of warranty (Bryston's normal warranty on their amplifiers is 20 years and transferrable as well).
Given that they quoted me £450 for swapping each (not both) of the two faceplates on my BP26 pre-amp (silver to black), a non-warranty repair bill from PMC could be seriously painful. To whom else could you (safely) entrust such equipment for repair? Apart from anything else, any non-Bryston authorised service engineer might well find it nigh-on impossible to get hold of a service manual.
One wonders also how SuperFi obtain their stock, given that PMC would almost certainly be very unhappy about Bryston supplying goods to the UK for distribution via any other retail channel.
Superfi is owned by a company called Eddy's, who also own Nottingham Hi-Fi Centre - an authorised Bryston dealer.

Anyone recommending mail ordering is surely either just not that critical, doesn't know their own mind or plain lazy.
Sadly you're looking at the issue in a very narrow-minded way. Not everyone can audition products in specialists, for a multitufde of reasons, none of which have anything to do with them being lazy or anything else derogatory. They rely on recommendations of others and/or magazines like WHF then buy from online warehouses or pile-it-high sell-it-cheap stores like Richers. If they don't like it they'll either send it back or sell it on.
EDIT: though I doubt you'll read this seeing that I've only just noticed this is an ancient resurected thread lol.
