Are Richer Sounds Slipping?
Not a rant but... after many years of happily recommending Richer sounds, I'm wondering if they have gone off the boil recently.
I wanted to treat myself to a new TV last week and for me, the first port of call was the Richer website.
All fine and dandy, lots of nice things to look at, check reviews of, etc - so far so good.
It all started going a bit pete tong once I decided to take advantage of some of the sale / clearence items, all of the 3 models I asked about were either - a) broken b) had parts missing or c) reserved for someone else. -
Ok - now to plan B and go for a box fresh model
Tried calling my local branch, could not get through and was diverted to the main customer care support line, very nice, they took my phone and email details and assured me someone would call me shortly - I'm still waiting for that call.
I'd also emailed a stock availability request via the web care email address but that took 6 hours to get a reply.
Now to plan C, I took a hike upto London bridge to be told that the model I wanted was out of stock and I should come back next week, I asked about availability at any other london stores but after checking was told, nope - nothing in Central London.
Grrrrrrrrr - you know the feeling that you get when your determined your not going away empty handed?
So I left the store and phoned the other central london branch with the same stock request and bingo! - they had one
Cost me a tenner to cab across into town and get my mitts on it
End result - I have a cracking TV in my living room but the whole experience was not really to the standards I'm used to or I hear about.
Clearance items are generally limited in stock by definition and with the advertising coverage Richers enjoy it is no surprise these items sell quickly.
Ive always had good service from Richer sounds up until recently. So perhaps standards are slipping...
Hi Badwolfbracken,
I was sorry to read of the problems you've encountered whilst making a purchase from us.
Many clearance models do tend to be limited in supply due to their very nature, and often can sell very quickly. However, I agree the sales assistants you spoke with should certainly have tried harder to help locate stock for you.
I am also at a loss as to why you did not receive a call back from your local branch after your details were sent through.
Indeed, I would be most interested to hear from you with some further information so that I may take this matter up with my team to try and find out what has gone wrong here.
I note that you have since bought a TV and I do hope that you have now had the opportunity to get this set up and enjoy it! However, should this not be the case, or if I may be of any further help whatsoever, then please do not hesitate to let me know. My direct email address is john.p.clayton@richersounds.com
Meanwhile, my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you've been put to on this occasion, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Many thanks,
John Clayton

Well i've had a similar problem with the London Bridge branch, i am interested in the SL70 Ultima speakers, an assistant took my details and said they would get back to me, that was over a week ago, this was after being told to contact Cambridge Audio who said any richer branch should have the details and cost of said speakers. I do feel that all outlets have a bad run from time to time but at Richers it seems to be happening a lot more often lately, i must say though in general they are very good.
Personally, I can't fault the guys in Belfast. I did go looking for a UE40B7020 as part of their bank holiday clearance and they said they had a few left at the warehouse so they'd try get me one but said there was no guarantee. Sadly, it turned out all allocations were given out before getting to my order so I'm still without a TV but they are very good in helping with everything else I've bought from them.
I'm hoping after WHF do a review of the UE40C6530, I'll be down to them for one of those but they need to sort the price out on it first.
Hi Gregory,
I was obviously concerned to read that my colleagues at our London Bridge store have failed to contact you regarding the Cambridge Audio SL70 speakers and would like to offer my sincere apologies.
So that I may resolve this situation for you could you email me via the below address with your details?

My branch was helpful for a box shifter. Bought some cords and prices were spot on.
I`ve never ever purchased any thing from Richer Sounds in the 30+years or so that I`ve loved HIFI & music up to last Saturday that is.... It`s always been from my trusty specialist Hifi/AV dealer in Huddersfield.... however they didn`t sell the particlar brand I was looking for , so I had to look else where.
As an urgent surprise present for my Dads Birthday , I have been reading about the Sony BDP-S370 for a while & was on the point of ordering one from Amazon when I saw the Richer Sounds advert for one at a competiive price.Phoned the Leeds branch up and spoke to guy called Keith.... very , very helpful and enthusiastic and told me everything I wanted to know.... asked if he could reserve one for me and said yes I would be down later on to collect it whilst me and the wife were shopping in Leeds....
So we arrived at the Leeds Richer Sounds and were greeted by a chap (not the guy I had spoke on the phone) who basically didn`t smile and was about as enthusiastic as some one with a hangover.... and to be honest me and the wife felt that we were putting him out of his way by actually being in the shop....., oh dear...
Was it some thing I`d said.... I honestly don`t know but if it wasnt for the fact that I was desperate for the Sony player for my Dads birthday I`d have walked out and gone home to order one from Amazon.
Now , you could say we all have bad days and good days ,but I think we arrived at the shop on a bad day...
Some people may say I`m just moaning for the sake of it.... But as a first time experience at Richer Sounds I`m not impressed by some ones attitude towards me , the customer...
By the way player is superb and I`m going to order one for myself from Amazon or I may try to pursuade my trusted Hifi dealer to get me one , of which I should have done in the first place....

I had a Richer Sounds experience today. I nneded 3 things (and I was ready to buy all of them if it all worked):
1 - a modern av receiver with all hd sound decoders, with pre outs and not taller than 150mm
2 - check if denon dm38 will charge both new and old ipods and if yes buy it
3 - check if Squeezebox touch will power a usb drive and play itunes playlists directly from it
How it went:
1 - the guy who helped me, not knowing from the top of his heads which ones have pre-outs, took his time to check them all, we measured them etc so no complaints here, unfortunately none fit the bill
2- again he let me connect all the ipods and docks (i had all the gear with me for checking) and try charging. it did charge the new ipod but not the old. bummer. but no complaints on service here either.
3 - it turned out squeezebox touch needs to be setup on a network first (create account) before it can do anything else. the guy refused to connect the touch to the network soI was unable to check anything. that part was not helpful. what is the problem with doing a full demo of a device? it,s a network player!
I gave up on Richers a while ago.
EDITED BY MODS for defamatory comments
Also had problems when i got a tv from them, I wasnt happy and wanted to change it after a day, as the box it came in was the size of my house i had ripped it up, and they said if i wanted to swap it I would be charged £50 for the box!

The Richer Sounds returns policy clearly says
"As you can appreciate, we would request that all goods be returned in
an 'as new' condition complete with packaging and all accessories.
Unfortunately, goods which do not comply with this condition may be
subject to a handling charge."
After all, if the product is returned without its packaging, simply because you've changed your mind, its resale value is greatly diminished through no fault of the retailer.

I have to admit I am not a massive fan of Richer Sounds, based on my experience in the Cardiff branch. However, the fact that their operations director is trying to deal with peoples concerns personally on this forum is extremely impressive, and very encouraging.

My feelings too, which is why I always go to Audio Excellence in Crwys Road, great shop!
Big fan here. I've used both their Preston and Manchester City Centre stores and found them both excellent. Easy to talk to, a decent range of stock, and very competitive prices. Product knowledge can vary dramatically according to which member of staff you speak to, and maybe that could be improved, but generally speaking I have come across some very knowledgeable and obliging staff in both shops over an extended period of time.

I would say that is pretty standard stuff when buying a tv through Richer Sounds when going through clearance items first.
