US Rules Jailbreaking Tablets is Illegal

Have they nothing better to legislate on? What is the risk to me if some guy buys an iPad and jailbreaks it to run unapproved software?

It won't effect anyone.

Your average  iSheep will continue to be happy with no choice/buying apps from Apple, and those that aren't will continue to JB, they'll just have to look a bit harder for the info

It will eventually affect more and more people. The idea is to turn more people into those sheep, thereby limiting choice. It will be how regional controls over software and files will be enforced, just like Amazon have done with the Kindle Fire, devices will be region set.

I'm not as i have never Jailbroke a product but does Apple still require you to sign up on itunes which would include your details ? because if this was so it wouldn't take much for Apple to start rolling out the court summons

Just to make clear, jailbreaking was already illegal in the us on tablets.  The news is that smartphones have been made legal.  The only reason tablets haven't, is because its too broad a term.  What is a tablet?  Is it just iPads or windows tabs?  Games consoles like the 3ds?  Satnavs fit the bill too.  Is the galaxy note and dell streak a tablet?  They can't legislate on something that ambiguous, so will have to wait three years till the next bout.

Still don't see why it needs legislation. Even if I buy an iPhone (or an iPad), completely flatten it and rebuild it with another OS (surely even 'worse' than just jailbreaking?) what the hell concern is it of anybody's but mine...

not saying I agree with this (cos I don't) but the argument is that if software sales or content sales subsidise the cost of a product, then you should not be able to circumvent those secondary sales.  I personally think if you sell a tablet with margins so thin you rely on secondary sales, you deserve everything you get! (I.e not a lot)

I agree.  In the same measure, I'm surprised Epson et al haven't asked for third-party compatible cartridges to be outlawed.
