Apple to buy Dr. Dre's Beats headphones?

Probably a good business move, considering the headphone brand is no. 1 in sales (style over substance).

Another reason why Apple have brought them is so they have a product that the kids are down with.

Sony 808 ES Amplifer, PSB imagine B bookshelf speakers, Pro-ject debut carbon turntable, Audiolab 8200 CD player, Atlas cables, Partington super dreadnought speakerstands and Quadraspire Q4EVO hi-fi rack.

I wouldn't usually believe this stuff, but it's in the Wall Street Journal and they are Apple's mouth piece of choice... I hope they don't try a HTC and bundle the bloody things with phones.

If Apple buys Beats, it doesn’t just get a bestselling audio brand, it has lifestyle brand all ready for iWatch, on top of existing Nike tie-in for the sports angle

Group Marketing & PR Manager, Computers Unlimited.

Brands represented include Astell&Kern, Audioengine, B&O Play, Canton, Flexson for SONOS and SONOS

yup, from a business point of view, it's a pretty shrewd and very well thought out aquisition if it does happen.

It was on the home page about four hours earlier!   :bounce:   http://www.whathifi.com/news/apple-set-to-buy-beats-electronics-for-32-billion

Beats Music in the US as well, which is a streaming music Spotify-rival. Bundle that in every iOS device as Apple's stock streaming music service...?

Presumably they'd also get MOG (even though beats are/were due to shut it down) so two streaming services for the price of one

Maybe this will be a good thing for the headphones. I can't deny Apple is a lifestyle brand but by and large their products do what they say on the box, and they do it well. Whereas the Beats headphones I heard in HMV last year are a lifestyle product which sounded bloody awful.

Don't flush them, if they're the ear pods you'll get decent money on eBay.

I don't mind the ear pods, just because the isolation is soooo very bad it makes them very good for cycling.  They make you very aware of your surroundings, so quite safe to use. Would never pay for them, but as a freebie they are usefull for activities I wouldnt want to risk decent head phones on.

Yes, I still have them and they are Ok for what you suggest.  After getting the new Xperia Z2 the Sony Headphones are very good, maybe a little too bassy but do work really well.  I did think the AKG  headphones I had were (and still are) good but the at least the Sony ones do stay in my ear better, especially when I'm at the gym.  Just a shame there is no remote on them.  I am now considering some on ear phones, like the AKG 451/452 or maybe something similar for when I'm travelling.  No more £100 on headphones, especially since I heard a rumour about this on macrumours.

"Apple Preparing HD Audio Playback for iOS8 Alongside New In-Ear Headphones and Lightning Cable", I wonder if this is to do with the ongoing Dr Beats acquisition.

I might just wait a little longer, especially since my iPhone 5 contract expires in December, have just upgraded my Blackberry Z10 to the Sony Xperia Z2 and love the jump.

What is it with me and Z models..  lol.

Yep, bought to take out a

Yep, bought to take out a streaming rival as well as the youth market.

To my mind Beats is a fad and will fade out as soon as the next overpriced fashion brand comes in. Dre will be laughing all the way to the bank.
