Did your MW3 arrive on or before release day? My Amazon order didn't.

Hello all,

Was just wondering how many of you preordered MW3 and received it on or before release day regardless of where it was purchased? I ordered mine from Amazon and paid for 1st class postage because as the site states "Want to receive this the day it comes out? Select first class at checkout" yet it didn't arrive this morning surprise surprise and i feel cheated into paying extra for postage that was completely pointless.

I'm just trying to get an idea of how some of the other companies performed as it seems one of the largest internet retailers in the country simply couldn't cope with demand and deliver on their promises. Now i know you are going to say that you can't account for our creaking postal service but then my order was only dispatched yesterday so the failing in my eyes is with Amazon as it was always extremely unlikely that it would arrive today and it smells of poor planning on their part and of a pre ordering system that is simply failing to deliver.

I've contacted Amazon about it and await their reply but in the meantime any info RE how others performed would be welcome and to those who received it or went to a midnight launch, have fun and leave your initial impressions of the game.

I had a similar problem from Amazon with Battlefield 3 a week or two ago. It should have arrived on the Friday morning, but didn't show until Saturday.

Much to my son's (half-term-week) disgust... Angry

Didn't bother me so much, as I had to work, and then was out in the evening, but still, it's annoying, as you say, OB

RE: Did your MW3 arrive on or before release day?

I think the blame lies with the game's publisher this time. There's been some strict edicts given out to all retailers to ensure the game isn't available prior to the release date (see this article about it). This means that Amazon were probably not allowed to post it out until yesterday to ensure no one got the game early. As a result, you're reliant on the Royal Mail actually meeting a next day delivery for first class post (unlikely these days).

Other games I've purchased from Amazon have been dispatched sometimes 3 or 4 days prior to release to ensure they got to me on time - they always have in these cases (I didn't purchase MW3 so can't comment on this particular instance).

It can be frustrating, my only advice would be if you desperately want a game (or a movie) on its release date, you could always try someone like Shop To who use recorded delivery to deliver (fine as long as you're home of course!), but even they can't provide cast iron guarantees (though they do offer release date or compensate as way of recompense). So if you really want to guarantee it, you need to go to a "bricks and mortar" shop - they still have their uses!

EDIT - the one thing I would say is, with first class, at least you're likely to get it tomorrow, rather than maybe Thursday or Friday via standard delivery. If you complain, Amazon may well refund the postage cost. They've done this for me previously (before I got Prime membership) when I paid extra to have next day delivery and it didn't arrive.

RE: Did your MW3 arrive on or before release day?

Thank you both for your replies.

Many thanks for the info prof and the link to the article, much appreciated as always good job

I should have stated earlier that i had ordered the hardened edition of MW3 which affected my decision of where to purchase it, i am aware of Shopto and their postal system and have ordered from them quite alot but i would say i have had a 50/50 hit rate with getting the game next day or on release day.

The main factor this time was with price £79.99 was the average price on the net for the hardened edition but i got it for £69.99 with the Amazon pre order guarantee when they matched Asda and Tesco before release and i believed that out of the three i was most likely to get it on release with Amazon, unfortunately that seems a little misguided.

I guess my biggest mistake was thinking Royal Mail would be able to deliver a 1st class post item the next day... Laughing out loud which as you say is unlikely these days and the embargo wouldn't have helped my chances of receiving it on release either so i guess these two things have conspired against me this time which is a shame as i took a days holiday to make sure i was at home to receive it today as my neighbours are usually at work meaning yet another day goes by before i can then collect it from the sorting office.

If it's delivered tomorrow then it will now be thursday or friday before i can collect it unless i get lucky and a neighbour is home to take it in which i doubt which just adds to the frustration as i'm sure the box will be too big to fit through the letter box.

Anyway lesson learnt and next time i want a game on release i will pre order a physical copy from a retailer and pay the extra cash for the privelage, it was just that a £10 saving this time was quite significant and that swayed me more than it should but as i say it's a lesson learnt for future releases.

EDIT: Amazon replied to my email by refunding my postage costs which was welcome but beyond that i just got an apology and blamed it on Royal Mail which is fair enough, i would have done the same as the game was posted yesterday to be delivered today. A good gesture from them but i remain frustrated lol.
