iCloud and photo's.

I have finally switched iCloud on and would like to use it store all the photo's we have.

 

Is it only possible through iPhoto or can i just put all the snaps in one file and add it that way?

iCloud is not for photo storage, it's to make syncing your photostream between your apple devices easier.  Any photos uploaded to the cloud only stay there for 30 days.  Better to use Flickr or similar.
