Don't worry about it.  Make sure you have got 3 year Apple Care on the iMac and enjoy it.

Some people just like to invest a lot of their life hating other people's choice of domestic consumer durables. It's their problem not your's.

+1. Apple products just work. Generally they all work seemlessly together and look great. There is no Pc equivalent and Microsoft is nowhere near in terms of offering hardware and software as a fully integrated package of the same quality.

I tend to buy used kit to reduce the cost, as Apple is generally pricey, but having moved from Pcs, I do love the 'fafflessness' of it all.

RE: imacs and apple products

Apple computers have limited amount of software available, and all Apple products do things their own way, thus in some cases limiting their flexibility. (They also tend to tie you in to their way of doing things)

You will also hear from Apple owners that they are more reliable and less prone to problems than PCs, however in reality there is no difference, (I have been working with all types of computer for over 30 years) so you can just ignore the vocal For & Against camps. (Remember there are more Windows PCs then Apple PCs so Windows will always appear to have more problems)

The only thing you need to know is that Apple is a pretty closed system, whereas Windows (And others) are more open, thus ultimately more flexible, (Also because 80% of the market is dominated by Windows you will always be able to have a chat with somebody that’s got one, whereas Mac owners are few and far between) but do you need that flexibility?

Golden rule when buying anything is make sure it does what you want, and it will work with what you already have, (Include anything you are thinking of upgrading to) then just go for it and enjoy.

Hope this helps

Bill

Abacus' final point is the most important - make sure it will do what you want it to do, rather than the other recent poster who got home to find his shiny new MacBook doesn't have a DVD drive. Apple's decision to remove an optical drive for much of their recent inventory will probably push me away from the brand for my next purchase, or will force me to buy second hand.

A company/product/service etc that performs well or does well for itself will always attract haters.

from my experiance apple stuff is prety good, i have my macbook for the last 5 years and it is my main computer and is used quite heavily every day! couldnt say the same thing about my last few windows laptops that kept breaking down evry couple of months! i also have iphone 4s which now looks outdated compared to new phones, it still is good enough for everyday simple web browsing some angry birds and the good ol' phone calls! Possibly worth noting for anyone considering a MacBook that John Lewis is currently offering a three-year guarantee on them. Only know because just acquired one...

Worth checking out the apple refurb store online, you may find a bargain.

RE: Can someone please explain why imacs and apple

You've answered the question yourself. You can get the same performance for half the price. That hits the nail on the head. Apple is the most valuable brand in the World' which means you pay more for the Apple name than any other product. Good for Apple, but it also means that Apple products are the worst value for money products in the World. Not so good for consumers, but, as you say, it does not concern you.

The other main reason people hate them is incompatibility. Rather than go with Bluetooth, they copy and tweak it to make Airplay. rather than go with FLAC, they copy and tweak it to make ALAC. This is how systems used to be before Sir Tim Berners-Lee, when nothing was compatible and the PC may never have taken off for home use. So in some ways Apple are taking us backwards not forwards. Apple want everyone to buy everything from them. As you're doing this anyway, it shouldn't be a problem.

Just about every Apple device has Bluetooth, and they have for many years. Bluetooth does things AirPlay doesn't, just as AirPlay does things Bluetooth doesn't.
