You're
You are. Abbreviated is 'You're'. The apostrophe replaces the 'a' in 'are'.
Not 'Your'.
And 'There', and 'Their', the latter belonging to.
Basic stuff really.
My little boy went to a nursery on a holiday and came back with some fun saying 'Thomas's handprint's'. It's not difficult.
And 'would of', what's that all about?
so 'would've', not 'would of', then.
oh and don't forget 'they're' - they are
and it's and its
not to mention the classic greengrocers' apostrophe
I am guilty of being an apostrophe snob, and have to restrain myself in front of my wife for fear of getting "outed" loudly as such...
Maybe we should ban the apostrophe and go back to the full way. But I bet those grapefruit's (sic) would still have them...

You mean not 'the grapefruit's skin' but 'the skin of the grapefruit'? Or not 'the team's bus', but 'the bus in which the team is travelling'?
Journalists of the world, paid by the thousand words, rejoice!

I always thought it was "the team bus"? Not that I ever got to travel in one... ![]()
can be either, but perhaps that was a bad example for just that reason - and of course the fact that if more than one team were to be travelling on the one bus, it would be 'the teams' bus.
Let's try not 'the team's bags' but 'the bags belonging to the team' instead, huh?
Is it 'more cool' or 'cooler'? I was taught the former. As in 'the weather will become more cool'.

either- as long as it's not both,Some adjectives lend themselves to the comparative, others not.,and it also depends on the emphasis of the comparison. Just don't say more cooler.
English is not my first language but it really grates me when people mis-use "it's" and "its" or "bought" and "brought" or "there" and "their" and the list goes on.
I was quite amazed at the poor level of English (grammar and spelling) of some of my college-educated former work colleagues.

So true.
But even before the advent of "text speak", I was shocked when (back in '9
one of my (Kiwi) housemates wrote up a note saying "You're dad called" intended for another housemate. I was like: "What??..." trying to figure this one out.

I do not know which is your first language but it is the same in most of them-- you just have to go with the flow.

And I bet he was just, like, so, what-ev-er!.
