Seeing as no-one really cared about the Euros anyway, the real summer sporting action commenced on Monday!

Just watched one of the greatest performances I've ever seen by Rosol to beat Nadal in 5 sets. Surely unparalleled sustained, accurate, power hitting. And with the roof on, under the lights, stunning occasion. Anyone else see this?

What do people think of Murray's chances? Tough draw but he's looked good so far.

Djokovic to retain the title? Or someone else?

Smile

Missed it! Was out grocery shopping doh!

I loved the Paszek-Wozniacki match though.

Rooting for Heather Watson also. I've seen her come through the ranks, and hopefully she'll continue to progress.

Catch a replay if you can! I don't think anyone could have beaten him on that form today, although his record would suggest it's unlikely he can keep it up. Good news for Murray is he would only have to beat one of the top three to win - if he can get that far.

I don't normally find women's tennis as interesting, but that Wozniacki match was gripping. Not a bad showing all round from the brits, although Murray will probably be the only one through to the second week.

Well well... Nadal out, Murray thru. Whatever next? More chance of Beckham being left out of the GB football team. beauty, eh

Yep, best chance for Murray to reach the final in five years. That's him out in the quarters then...

I think that just about sums it up, 'anyone' being the operative word - even the greats of the past, Becker, Sampras, Borg et al would have fallen to such a freakish display. It wasn't just the power of the shots but the ludicrous accuracy at times, hitting the corners and the lines, was just staggering. I never thought anyone would ever out power Nadal. It was what amateur golfers refer to as a "day out" - everything goes right, you feel unbeatable and play miles better than anyone thought you could Cool

The only down side is that one cannot help feeling that it gives Andy Murray a much better chance of getting to the final but knowing that he won't! - as for the only Brit to reach week two, not totally convinced, I have some hope for Miss Watson

Surely the real summer sporting action started with the first race at Royal Ascot won by Frankel, probably the best horse ever seen on a flat racing course.

Oh well, Watson started promisingly, rapidly went downhill, then regained a little bit of pride. Hopefully she'll become a bit more powerful as she gets older. She's obviously getting better though, she's being referred to as British more often!

And I'm sure for some the real action will start at the Olympics. YMMV  Smile

I agree about 'anyone'. Although I would have been interested to see Sampras matching up against him, he would have found breaking serve much harder (it still being the weakest part of Rafa's game on grass) and to pass a truly great volleyer at the net point after point would have presented a different challenge.

Sorry to be proved right re Watson but I felt any of our women would have it tough once they played an opponent from a higher class. Just hope Murray does make it through, but he shouldn't have any problems tomorrrow.

Another incredible match tonight. Lower quality than yesterday but just as nail biting. During the fourth I got the feeling of Fast Eddie v Minesota Fats looking at the two of them, and thought Federer would win, but great match. With Novak also dropping a set against an ordinary opponent the signs are good for Murray, who IMO has looked much the best of the top four.  Smile

I think Murray has a real shot at the title if Federer, Djokovic, Tsonga, del Potro, and Ferrer all lose.

Murray should beat Baghdatis, but Ferrer put him out of the French. Alright, that was a loss on clay to a clay court specialist, and Murray was injured, but Ferrer can beat anyone. He's like a metronome. You can guarantee he'll capitalise on any dip in form from even the best opponents.

I honestly think Tsonga could edge a semi-final against Murray (that's if they both get that far). He was sensational against Djokovic at the French, in the best match of the tournament that went right down to the wire.

Like Ferrer and Tsonga, del Potro's in Murray's half of the draw. He's not the force he was when he won the US, but still a genuinely dangerous opponent that nobody wants to play. As for Federer and Djokovic, enough said...

Plus, as Rosol proved yesterday and Benneteau almost demonstrated today, an inspired performance from a lower ranked player is always possible.

I'll temper my expectations, but I have greater faith in Murray's abilities than the England squad's version of football. His back will need to hold up, though. Murray's genuinely world class. He's just not alone in that regard.

Now if a couple of them would only kick a line-judge....... ohhh sure

For the record. I don't care at all about Wimbledon and I was gutted after the Italy game. Tomorrow I will watch the final and Wimbledon may not even appear on my TV at all...

I have to say I was a bit torn; a German-born wife who's a quarter Italian gave me a bit of a dilemma. Though she usually denies the German bit so was happy to see the Italians win Smile

Murray - final for me now, can't seeing him winning though, unless the other top two go out.

We have just signed Steven Whittaker from Rangers.  Wink
