Wimbledon 2011
There's just a few days before the Worlds premier Grand Slam tournament starts in Womble. Although I love playing tennis I'm not an avid watcher.
Who's going to shine? who'll flop? Can Murray do it, or will expectations inhibit his natural game?
Can Britain get two player into the second week?
Ms Barker, get your racket re-strung just in case...
Will Sir Cliff sing if it chucks down with rain?
I was at Wimbledon when Cliff started his sing song, and I have to agree with Strapped - not good memories. Well, it has to be Djokovic, Federer, Nadal or Murray this year - not much surprise there. If I had to pick one, it would be possibly be Djokovic - if he is fully fit.
Someone may shine in the first week. During the second week the favourites will all be there. Predictable.
British players will flop.
Andy won't do it. Quarters or semis. Only 3 men can win it and they are the top 3.
No.
No. Centre court has a roof and I doubt he will be with the serfs in the lower courts.
I truly hope I am wrong. With the exception of Cliff.
Indeed, the sing-along-a-Cliff moment was a national embarrasment. Don't forget, those horrific sounds and images were being broadcast throughout the world.
In my opinion, you'd be a fool not to pick Rafa for the title. Murray will reach the semi-final stage, at best.

Murray through to round three, not an easy draw though:

Heather Watson unlucky to go out having looked strong against an erratic opponent before she injured her elbow. Good win for Laura Robson tho, coming back from 1 set down. Tough match in the second round but on a show court, so good experience for a rising talent
The gripping match today (yesterday) was Venus Williams and Kimiko Date-Krumm. This lady is 40 years old and she took Williams the distance. Inspirational.
Laura Robson is due out soon. Can't see her winning, just hope she gives a good show.
Mind you, if she does win tonight they should rename 'Henman Hill' or 'Murray Mount' to 'Robson Green'...
Sharapova was on earlier but I had to turn it off after about 10 seconds. The noises that she comes out with are horrifying! Mind you, Martinez and Williams appear to be doing their best to live up to Sharapova in the shouting front...
It just seems rather unsporting and quite frankly very off putting.
Edit: Martinez isn't so much grunting at the moment, more whining. Even more horrible to listen to.

Don't she just make a racket (cough cough).
Laura played really well. I think in 2 or 3 years time she'll be a serious contender.

I only saw Heather Watson's post-match Press conference, I wondered what had happened! Looks like she should have a good future too. I thought Laura Robson did well today, just not good enough yet.

'Robson Green' - I like that.
What a breath of fresh air Marcos Baghdatis is. Nearly all the top pros have the personality of a cardboard cut-out, Baghatis, on the other hand, played to the crowd and wait for it... actually smiled.
Yep I'll second that , really enjoyed watching him play.

"Can Murray do it, or will expectations inhibit his natural game?"
Being British will inhibit his natural game.
"Can Britain get two players into the second week?"
No.
"Will Sir Cliff sing if it chucks down with rain?"
Please don't drag up painful memories!
I must confess, I'm something of a tennis nut, and always ensure I'm not working during the last week of June/first week of July, throughout which I'm glued to the telly. There's something unique about Wimbledon, its tradition, and the atmosphere the tournament generates. Roll on Monday, I say, at which point work will take a back seat. I'll probably gain half a stone over the fortnight from snacking and being entirely sedentary. Can't wait!
