I would have to say the 80's for me. It was when I started to get into music as a teenager. Some of the bands who are filling arenas with 'kids' now started out then:- Chili Peppers, NIN, Metallica, Green Day and Beastie Boys etc.
I think bands like U2 and R.E.M. were producing their best stuff in that decade. Plus it's when I had the most disposable income to spend on some of the weird and wonderful experimental stuff.
I do beleive that a good record is a good record no matter when it was recorded or it's genre.
I have to say the 90s were the most boring and I wanted to hurl things at most grunge, but I liked bands like Soundgarden and Jane's Addiction
I would class Soundgarden and Jane's Addiction as 80's bands who continued into the next decade not 90's bands.
