Where would you like to go?
We were planning our second trip to Mongolia for next summer last night. We had such a great time last time it is almost a certainty though I was just wondering if anyone else had any ideas of off the beaten track (preferably unpoliced) destinations?
Last time (same thing planned this time) we packed a sat nav, a stock of food and a suitcase full of climbing gear. We rented an old Soviet jeep from Ulan Baatar and disappeared into the Mongol outback for 6 weeks ÿ- nothing illegal, we just loved the freedom (and the fact there's no roads). Suggestions welcome.
Er, i'll probably leave the suggestions to someone else, then - i'm more of a room-service-and-a-spa kind of holiday type ![]()
Would also be interested to hear about everyones favourite places / destinations - maybe something for the future!
Ive always had a hankering for Tibet, one day i hope to make it happen.

So do the Tibetans...
Indonesia has plenty of off the beaten track stuff. Its a stunning place and you should get out there before its all ruined. I would have loved to have gone out to the banda islands out east and towards papua. Only problem is you can only get 2 month visa's which is no where near enough time!!
If you want wilderness on a more civilised front then new zealand is great for getting yourself lost, especially if you go towards the end of the season, you hardly see anyone!! Make sure you take a fishing rod for the fresh snapper and trout!
Wishing I was skiing in British Columbia but no can do until our little one is 3 years old. Roll on 2011. Not the wilderness holiday others are keen on but just great to feel free on the slopes for a short while.
Dundee. Further from civilisation it is not possible to go.
We spent a week here last year as part of a longer trip to Bali. Off the beaten track with just enough infrastructure to be comfortable but not nearly enough to be ruined. God it was fantastic. Been thinking about going back ever since.

The problem is getting out of B.C., at least at the moment. I flew out of Vancouver to Calgary last night (in-laws hopping for Christmas) and was delayed 5 hours. My wife was not so lucky. Booked on Air Canada, she had to queue for 8 hours (!) to be re-booked after her flight was cancelled and then sleep in the queue (because they closed the ticketing desk at midnight), before finally getting a flight a 9.30 this morning. It's totally crazy here. Is anyone else travelling on the Canadian West coast (or elsewhere snowed in) at the moment?

Not especially "environmental" destinations. Isn't there somewhere nearer to home?
Just a thought....if it's freedom, adventure and isolation you crave why not take up sailing? I suspect a 6 week trip sailing round Scotland or Ireland or something would provide plenty of excitment.
I want to go on the same cruise as we did this year: NCL Norweigan Jade cruising for two weeks around the Med to Monaco, Villefrance-sur-la-mer, Gibraltar, Florence, Rome, Vigo, Lisbon, Barcelona, Cadiz and all from Southampton's QE2 port. It was a lovely trip and I can highly recommend it to anyone! It was a very nice ship aswell, however we did have a bit of trouble when the ship's generator broke in the middle of the night and I woke up absolutly boiling because the aircon had broken! Then the whole power of the ship went off and P&O's 'Oriana' had to come to our rescue! Made a fun evening though!
Back to Nepal. We went white water kayaking & safari there two years ago. It was an amazing place, with so much culture, amazing scenery, brilliant rivers and fantastic locals. My friend has just managed to land a job working there permanently as a safety boater...what a lucky guy!

What on earth are you planning? (Or shouldn't I ask?)
