What's your favourite film score?
Has anyone said Blues Brothers or The Commitments yet?

Thanks for that. I explicitly didn't want this to turn into a "what's your favourite song" thread.
Scores and soundtracks are quite different things (to me anyway). As we're talking scores, Shutter Island. And I suppose The Dark Knight would get a mention too.

I had noticed a few creeping in, hence the sarcastic comment and the

Resident Evil Afterlife.
Could easily be a Trent Reznor ST. :)
Taling of which, GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, especially like Karen O doing Immigrant Song from opening credits.
Like this for example.
Yeah. Wasn't quite on brief. The song though is in opening credits so can be factored out
great thread, I'm going to listen to Inception on Spotify later (if its on).

No worries. The problem with soundtracks that assemble a playlist of pop songs is that, most of the time, the music wasn't created specifically for the film. I also wanted to place relatively tight parameters on discussion and only consider orchestral and/or electronic scores.
Some good stuff so far, though discussion seems largely centred on recent films. There's approaching a century of sound cinema to draw on (longer, if we include live orchestral compositions for silent films).
The Rock by Hanz Zimmer. First track is awesome. Having said that, LOTR trilogy, Empire Strikes Back and Crimson Tide run it close...
Roadie -Just love this movie and especially Long Misty Days -Robin Trower
The Third Man.
The Railway Children.
Kes.
The Third Man.
Ah, you can't beat a bit of zither...
Bullit
The Third Man
Blade Runner
The Draughtsman's Contract
The Dark Knight
Some of Bernard Herrmann's scores from the Hitchcock films are good too, such as Psycho, Vertigo, North by Northwest etc
1492 - Conquest Of Paradise

I'm sure this has been done before.
That said, I sat down to watch Once Upon a Time in the West last night for the first time in years. I'd forgotten how wonderful the score is, though that perhaps has something to do with shots of Claudia Cardinale during its most sweeping moments.
Scorsese style pop compilations are not under consideration here. Only orchestral or electronic scores composed specifically for a film.
