Inspired by the above and made from two Ikea towel rails, cost £18, with enough left over for an actual towel rail...

Great idea - I like it

forgive my ignorance if its a stupid question , but why do you need 4 pairs ??

I have to admit, I wanted to ask this question too.  But feared it may be classed as stupid.  Smile

Me too.

And me

The real answer is because I can, seriously! First came the Grados, which are now 9 years old. They were for late night quiet listening due to a baby appearing in the house. Then, for convenience I switched to all headfi and got the AKGs as an upgrade. But unlike upgrading to new speakers, you dont need to get rid of the old headphones to make space. The Grados and AKGs have different sounds to them. The Grados are particularly effective with rock.

The Senns were bought for a series of trips as they are portable, they fold into a nice case and they do not leak sound to annoy others. The Goldrings were bought because the Grados and AKGs leak a lot of sound so much so they can disturb others watching TV. I listen in the living room.

But, the Goldrings still leak some sound, so there is an excuse to buy some more totally leakless. Then I want the Ergos as they are more like ear speakers. Both of those headphones will be under £200, so cost is not bad either compared to other hifi.

As I said, I do it because I can.

PS - I also have three amps for the headphones.

wow , i will pay you the utmost respect in any future threads regarding earphones , thats for sure Big Smile

Respect straight back at you maxflinn. My collection is small compared to many headfiers, particularly those who buy and sell all the time. (I also have standard apple buds and Senn mx500s).

It is fun auditioning headphones as well. Between PC World, John Lewis, the Apple Store and HMV (less so now) I have spend hours listening to other headphones they have available at listening stations, usually hooked up to ipods, which is not ideal, but it gives you an idea of their sound.

Nice collection going on there. I'll look forward to hearing all about them. You can educate me.
