What are people reading?
Doing the rounds... Literature is a snuff subject, though disgraceful as it is to read a book I'd be interested in hearing some good titles. I've done well the past week, I've polished off Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot" and also Cormac McCarthy's excellent "The Road".
Looking for recommendations of a new read....
Thanks Chris - never read anything by Koontz, is there a starting piece or are they all the same?
Surely more people read books around here?ÿ
The Bible?? ![]()
Failing that, you could try Magician by Raymond E Feist. (Depends if you like the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre though). This is an excellent read and just the start to many more books in the series.

Ah. Worth it?

Might give it a try. Who's the author so I don't look an idiot in Waterstones?ÿ
For Koontz, you've gotta try 'Watchers', 'Dark Rivers of the Heart', 'False Memory'. All excellent works.

'No Country for Old Men' is better........
My usual recommendations if you haven't read them - Elliot Perlman's Seven Types of Ambiguity, Christopher Coake's We're In Trouble (short stories), any Haruki Murakami (though start with Norwegian Wood, probably), We Need To Talk About Kevin, and just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which was rather good.

Well it's more a collection of books but just ask the staff they may have heard of it......
Otherwise, another suggestion would be this. I have not read it myself yet but this is the next book I am buying. It is supposed to be very good.
Another book I always recommend (but you have probably read) is The DaVinci Code.
(Angels and Demons is better!)
Well I've read all three. JDs and Gods suggestions are what I was looking for, thankyou gentlemen.
JohnDuncan:(Angels and Demons is better!)
This is another excellent book and you are right it probably is better than the DaVinci Code. Film should be out soon.
I have been impressed with all four of Dan Browns' books.
Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. He is a chef/writer/travel writer. It is all about his life in kitchens from kitchen porter to chef proprietor. A good read if you like that sort of thing. Apart from that just read The Godfather again for the umpteenth time. Gets better with every read!! To the op who mentioned Murakami i have read Dance Dance Dance and thought it superb. Very surreal. Other recomendations would be Junky by William S Burroughs and Complicity by Ian Banks. The Rum Diary by Hunter S thompson is also fantastic! Kick back with some Sigur Ros in the background and a nice Pinot Noir and you'll have a great evening in.

They're releasing films? When is "The Bible: Part One [Uncut]" released?
2012. Its split into several parts. Directed by Tarantino and produced by Rodriguez!

Well don't bother with Dean Koontz's latest, 'Your Heart belongs to me'. Yawnsville all the way... And I'm a Koontz devotee.
Haven't got anything else lined up at present. I'll probably pick up 'The Two Towers' again which I put down half-read about a year ago.
