I don't have a problem with that, sometimes i go to the supermarket & purchase just a few items, but sometimes i wonder is when you buy four cans of lager as a four pack is that one item or four.

And apologies, I should've clarified, my ire is re grammar - ie, it should be 'fewer' not 'less'. (Props to the honourable exception - Waitrose.) 
Petrol was originally a registered trade name for a nit removal solvent. So when motor cars were invented and people started using the same solvent as a fuel, the name stuck.
What do you want us to call it? Motor spirit?
